Cant buy some ships in the store

So i just redownloaded STO but some of the bigger ooler looking ships in the online store say my charecter is unable to buy certain ships. I was wondering if this has something to do with my level or is this a restriction due to the free to play account?

SOME SHIPS ARE LOCKED BY LEVEL. from in game at shipyard you can narrow down ships by rannk and type.

i hsve issues with buying fed ships for my romulan. seems glitched

Ships are locked by level, some ships may also need to be purchased through the zen store, which is payed currency. Depending on your race: Klingon, Romulan or Federation. For instance romulans can not use federation ships. they can only use romulan ships. Same for the others. Free-to-Play is not terribly restricting in STO. Also, everytime you level up in rank, Commander to Captain etc. You get a free ship token for that rank. You get these until you reach level 40. After that all (almost) ships must be bought with dilithium, fleet credit, or zen. Fleet ships also require at least ONE fleet ship module. I hope it helps, enjoy!

Ok that answers my question. Yes im Federation and i know about the tabs so you can see what ships are for what factions. I was just checking out some of the bigger ships you can buy and they kept telling me "your charecter cannot buy this ship" so i was just checking to see if it wasnt some founders thing or subscribers only sort of deal.

Theres only 1 or 2 ships that cant be purchased normally without being a Lifetimer, every other ship can be purchased if you meet the requirements which is listed within the details of the ship.

Ships are restricted by your characters Rank (sub lieutenant lieutenant lv20?, commander lv30?, captain lv40? etc) It wouldn't do to have a sniveling ensign commanding a federation flagship after all.
There are 3 free to play ships and 3 premium (mostly same but better) ships per rank
Also you can only own a lited number of ships at one time (+1 per rank) unless you pay to unlock more ship slots. same with having too many bridge officers

Wrong, Romulans can use Fed or Klingon ships up untill Tier 5. after that u only can use Tier 5 Romulan ships!

Second u can get a Token at lvl 50, but its only available with the right Veteran Reward.
Only ships u cant get without subbing atleast 1k days, is the Captains Shuttle, and the Vet star ship.
