Account Linking
Okay so I contacted Steam Support and they sent me here.

My issue is I have two STO accounts and I used to be able to use them both but now Steam defaults to an account that is basically a backup from a few years back. I can't seem to find a way to just link my old account that's over 10 years old. I don't care much about the new account though it would be nice if they didn't lock it to an account and make this such a pain. I mean we used to be able to switch back and forth with accounts but some reason this is a problem now and the new account has a different email than my Steam while the old account has the same email yet ARC linked the newer account and I no longer have access to that email so I can't even get the "one time code" to use it. I am totally locked out of the game essentially as I don't even see a button to start over, not that I want to do that as it complicates things further but it just seems really strange we can't even just wipe and start over either. This account locking doesn't seem well thought out.

In any case if someone could give me some direcition on reaching arc or steam to then get the old account connected to Steam at least that sure would help. I can't run straight arc as I use Linux and the variety of compatibility programs seem lost on the whole STO arc installer so I have to play through Steam and use proton.

Thanks in advance for any useful suggestions / assistance.

you could create a second steam account and link it to that. if that is not what you want, you have to contact star trek online support and get them to unlink the currently linked account.

Temporary workaround might be to add the Star Trek Online.exe in the game's files to Steam as a non-Steam game. Might be able to run it through Proton then.

You'll need to manually input your password every time, of course.

Some where on either the ARC or STO.com page is a spot to link / unlink accounts so you could switch your current over to the one you want.

Alt is to not use steam and you could jump back and forth like you want to.

I had the same issue. I have used Arc to run STO for the last 3 years. But can also started the game from the game folder in the steam apps directory so it ignores the linking.

The only reason i can't do this is that I am in Linux.
the launcher should be possible to start without steam, by going to the game`s folder. wether you are using steam or running the game directly, you still use the same executable. it is called star trek online.exe

In Windows sure. In Linux need Proton or Wine etc.
as long as they use the same file system it should not be any different. steam is also not required for running the game, only for downloading it. if you are using stuff like wine, then you need to point wine to star trek online.exe, rather than point it to steam.
