You can even breed special tribbles. Here's how it works:
If you have tribbles (ANY tribbles, except cannibals) and a qualifying food item stored in the same place (either personal inventory or personal bank), then when "tribble time" hits (see below), each tribble will eat one food item and generate one additional tribble, and the new tribble's quality and type can be influenced by the food item. (There's special Summer and Winter tribbles that require food from the event vendors, for example.)
And yes, there's cannibal tribbles, too. The same system works, except they eat ONLY white quality tribbles, and leave behind a Tribble Carcass. (KDF faction characters can receive a bounty for turning in Tribble Carcasses to KDF Secuirty Officers.)
-----
As for "tribble time"... if you enter "/played" in the chat bar (and have System messages visible), it will give a readout of the total time that your current character has been logged into the game, since that character's creation. "Tribble time" happens when the "/played" time hits exactly on an hour (or in other words, the displayed time would have zero minutes and zero seconds). It's therefore per character and has no relation to the real world clock.
