Don't expect tactical gameplay in PvE, though.
I think I had my first PvP combat a while ago at Starbase 24. I saw something like 50+ Klingon Ships and maybe 20 Human Ships. It was a very serious battle. It was successful, everyone pretty much maintained a "Ball" of ships and absorbed enemy in one's and twos. I will tell you that some of the Klingon heavy ships were particularly hard kills.
I switched from my uncommon Proton Torp to a Level 4 rare proton mine dispenser in the aft. I found that laying mines in the face of a pursuing enemy is very, very, very profitable. I hope to combine both torp and mines when I get the Excelsior or some other heavier ship with 6 or even 8 weapons slots.
SB24 is a PvE mission, so it was entirely about slaughtering the Klink cruisers for the 1st place reward.
MK VI stuff is... well it's one of the things you get rid of as soon as possible. Just do episode missions and you'll hit level 50 in no time. That's where the real game begins.
I go to the Starbase at Earth and visit the Exchange in the Assets section. I would sell say... 500 Zen at 130 dil each and recieve the Dil after a time. Then I would try and sell the Dil to get more Zen at say 125 dil each. Eventually 63 thousand becomes 68 thousand then 72+ or whatever. The exchange is a living insitution and right now my prices are not being met because richer Players are trading lower than I can.
I hope I have it right. Or was that the other way around.
I get a small amount of Dil each day from the Officer Assignments which I am still trying to learn. I have like 20 officers now, I would love to see 100 officers working assignments for accumulating. But don't know how to make it happen.
Idol, I liked your screenshot.
Ive learned to stay with the Federation Fleet and cover the Human controlled starship that has gotten hurt rather badly.
I plan to replace my Cruiser with the Excelsior which I think has 8 weapons slots and don't know of any other Federation ships that has more than 8 weapons slots. The challenge is keeping the right consoles in place so that you turn very well and find Mark 5, 6 , 7 and so on equiptment all the way to the max.
I play Engineer in the game and like it very much. I just finished fitting all of my Officers with the mark 4 miniguns for ground missions and the powerful enemies are simply shot to bits. I don't know of anything more powerful than the Fed Minigun phaser.
Ignore Sinnaj63, I've seen him make confrontational reply posts on other threads trying to get an emotional reaction from people's posts.
Unfortunately you can only have 20 doffs doing assignments at any one time,
On your original topic, I can kill a cube in a stf in around 20-30 seconds, 3 second cube kill very unlikely, maybe the player got exited and hit return before they could add the 0 to their 3.
As I said killing a regular Cube is possible under 3 seconds in the romulan Scimitar with the best gear possible to get. Killing a Tac Cube is tricky, because half of the health it carries goes to shields. As long as you can take down the shields it will be significantly faster.
The Excelsior is currently the best pick for an Aux2Bat powered ship at the Fed side, unless you have the Cardassian Galor (or JemHadar cruisers, or the Assimilated rom ships for instance). It got enough firepower to bump your DPS up to 20k... when BFaW isn't broken though lol
Don't forget: having 8 weapons have own flaws - bigger power drain, means lesser weapon power setting. Low power on WEAP means great degradation of damage. You will have to run a strict power of 100+ WEAP power all the time, and to exceed it (softcap) - A2B and a Fleet Warp Core for the 125 hardcap.
If you wish we could do a few missions together at some time, just drop me a message in Steam.
Would do that to my childhood cat next?
lol
This ship of mine is able to kill both cubes that are nearest the starting location in the Red Alert Borg in 1 pass (most players that I see in there, use full impulse to get from A to B where they are and then when they get there, they lack the weapon power to deal damage, and they also tend to fail clear away in time)...

But those must have been some really old guide(s) if you think you have to buy the ship from the c-store for the mastery trait... A player could be given said ship, traded for said ship, or bought it with EC... But yes, It is true that one must own the ship though and grind it to the 5th mastery to get the ship trait.. But traits like "All Hands on Deck", "Emergency Weapon Cycle", and "Supremacy" added with the right ship which has added bonus like say a T6 Husnock Warship that gets +15% Critical Severity. +2.5% Critical Chance. +10% All Energy Damage.. Then you add to that a ship and console/weapon set for a bonus which gives damage bonus etc etc
Then you can do things like this constantly

Making EC in STO isn't hard and has always been crafting ship weapons and consoles as the biggest way to do that...
If you craft a weapon like these
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1302756596
OR
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1307355271
Then you can afford to buy anything list on the market.. BUT..
Starting out and grinding your R&D's level 15 takes time and money and you'll need to invest in materials for crafting your supply of mats to make your products

Now, as for guilds which "current" and useful... One must ask (or search) with the correct question(s) to get a correct answer..
But if I were in your shoes, then I would start my quest at

And seek out for whatever wisdom the user " TheFallenPhoenix" has shared..
He shares such wisdom such as

Your quest will though will bring you to this next site after reddit..

They know all the little dark game mechanics to get that extra point of damage out things...
But beware... They spit... and maybe bite...
Joking of course, but in life in all things and places, you find that there are A-Holes and Nice pleasant peeps who will or do help others... Now that will be $50 USD..
lol joking again of course..
Ahghairon@majcyric is my STO handle
Join a fleet, yes yes, join a fleet, when I ask advice, 'get to epic quality' is the usual advice, I have wasted hundreds of thousands of dil to get 1 item to epic, on the other hand, one item took just a few thousand, that puts people off trying and as long as people do the 'you're a noob, go google it' people are in charge, there will be a big lack in decent players to pick from. Not to mention the rage quitters who complain that people don't kill quick enough so they leave.
I use ker'rat to lvl ships, it is only 1 of 2 places in the game that there is a constant pool of things to kill since craptic nerfed the ability to level a ship in a decent amount of time. At the same time I que for the borg red alert that is still the best for ship XP but they even nerfed that as well but has a 30 minute cooldown.
I agree that pvp is broken and I am on most people's ignore list amongst players who go into ker'rat due to my 'wallet warrior' phrase and moaning. On time, I got told, leave if you don't like it so I did and went to the other space borg area, they followed me there and continued the harassment. That isn't funny, it's akin to playground bullying, and yes, I have reported players for such as it is against the terms of play.
I have said for years, the game needs rebalanced so that players are encouraged to take part but the free to play but buy to win build has destroyed that. It's no longer a Star Trek game but a generic space shooter to earn the developers money over and above what is resonable. Hence the reason they put it on PS4 and Xbox one.
