Star Trek Online

anyone remember Bridge Commander?
remember that game? where you could optionally command from the seat, or from a 3d view...
where shields where actually three dimensional and mattered how you distributed them...
THAT was a great game

Don't forget the best mod for BC, Kobayashi Maru!

Hi everyone,

just a quick hint:
The UFP is a Star Trek Community which has a wide focus on Star Trek Games (Bridge Commander included).

Feel free to check our website at http://www.ufplanets.com
The only thing I hated about BC was that you couldn't really effectivley play it as the name suggested. The AI was just too terrible at manuvering and firing (especially torps, shooting at every lock regardless of how good the shot was) so you had to control it manually if you wanted to get anywhere. Another game like that would be really cool today, but if they got for the "bridge" experience, the AI has to at least be able to operate at a basic level.
The real shining point of BC was to give orders and rely on others, instead than do it yourself. Many times it is easier to do it on your own that delegate; and if you work in an environment where you have people below you (or you've been in the army), you know how hard is to trust others. Especially when a Klingon vessel is hammering your shield and you try to convey your strategy to your first officer, which will pass it trough to the spoecific crew member.

This was the main selling point for me; but now that we have MMO, I don't get why we cannot have a fully rendered bridge, where players actually take a seat at a astation and play with others....some will make it to captain one day, but you should start as cadet at SFA, like everyone does.....

They fixed the thing a bit with the intro quest for fed characters, but still I miss the chance to be assigned new guys under me, or work under a senior officer on a ship, and grow together.

That was the idea that I had for STO; then all that they did was to simply cut to the cheese and make a more standard game. What is the point of a MMO if I need others just to finish group quests and dungeons?

Other than that; the game is fun, but I just think about what it could've been.
I see your point, but in the context of this game what fun would that be. At best your interactivity would be limited to activating powers that your officers do. Tactical might get to select targets and helm might control your flight for you, but engineering would just get to activate the various abilites, and as captain all you'd be doing is giving the orders. So all you'd be doing is adding a lag time to when you click to activate powers.

I'd love to play such a game. But the closest we have for now is Artemis Bridge Simulator.
Sheesh, that's a long time ago (Bridge Commander). Loved that game indeed. Good times.

I would love to see something similar, but then Cryptic would be copying IP from Activision; which would require money and legal paper....a bunch of stuff that cost money and time.

Plus I believe that Cryptic tried to make their own game, so what we play today is what they ahd in mind for ST. Which may be good or bad; depends on the faction
Necro time! The game seems like something now with a sequel that would be amazing. The OG as other's noted with mods was the only way to really play it. There are however some TCs as well some still on the way so the community is still VERY active given there's whole youtube channels dedicated to the ships. Also I believe a couple of the ships that appeared in said Youtube channels for BC ended up in STO as well. A sequel that addresses the original issues with it would be fantastic. There was at least one VR attempt that's still on Steam. Hoping the modding tools get alot easier to allow a lower barrier of entry for newbie modders. I'm sure there's some ridiculous (and funny) stuff that could be made as well as just awesome ones as well.
the TNG CD, vaguely, its been awhile
Lol just realized the age on this post, how is it listed as a recent post? someone did some deep digging to find this one.
