One of my favorite looking ships from any source is the Imperial Dreadnaut from Star Wars. It's big and square and very utilitarian looking, but can dish out a huge amount of hurt.
This was in a D'deridex, mind, not some light warbird. As an engineer, to boot.
Crouch so you are a smaller target (c key), and remember to AIM (x key) as aiming increases weapon damage by upto 30 %. Take an engineer in your away team, for those shield regenerators, and minefields.
Also, I recall that they give you 5 respirators in one mission, equip these devices on your away team and your self, remember to add yours to your quick tray, the team will wear theirs automatically, that reduces the gas effects, they give you the gear, USE it.
I will agree that the D'Deridex is a terrible ship... at tier 4. The tier 5 version is like a completely different ship with with a killer BOFF layout and the fleet version even gets an improved turn rate. At tier 4 though, you would be better off with the Arkif warbird.
Yeah, it's avoidable when you're fighting one. When you're fighting a dozen, though...
So tier 5 *is* improved? Trying to decide what end-game ship I want on this character, and I've always had a love for that one.
I grabbed the escort as my T5 freebie and kinda regret it, I'm a cruiser captain at heart.
That was my problem then xD You *have* to dodge those beams, and that was simply impossible in the ship I was flying. Made the mission extremely frustrating. xP
My rommie is an alt, so I need to get some stuff on my main before I'm ready to grind up for an end-game ship for her, but I've been trying to figure out what I want. Been eyeing the T6 Aelahl; considering upgrading the D'D to fleet and T5U it would cost just as much.
It very much is. The tier 4 is shoehorned into engineering with no tactical or scientific strengths worth mentioning. The retrofit has the following layout:
lt. Com Tactical, Ens Tactical, Com Engineer, Lt. Com Science, Ens universal
So unlike its very basic tier 4 counterpart, the tier 5s have access to Lt. Com powers for BOTH science and tactical. It could spout gravity wells or use attack pattern Omega.
Consoles are: 3 tac/3 engi/3 sci
The fleet version gets a 4th engi console and the tier 5U treatment gives its a 5th. About as tough as you can get.
I fly mine with cannons but its frustrating at times. If you go for it, I would highly recommend beams. So if you are like me and like the ship (I do like cruisers as well myself) then yes, get this ship. IMO the tier 4 version is nothing like it.
The elachi missions felt like a mirror of the old Earth tales from RL. About Humans being abducted and experimented to be changed over into something else.
Now That I think about it, their storyline sounds ALOT like the collector/reaper relationship from mass effect,,
