I HATE the Elachi
The Romulan Elachi missions are sure to make quite a few newer Romulan players rage quit. I have been playing for quite a while and finally got to them and they almost made ME do it.

They have no good story. They have impossible enemies for PvE. They are FAR TOO DAMN LONG. Finally, they are far too boring.

The Elachi starships are apparently resistant to all damage other than kinetic. I finally figured out how to kill them: turn my ship into a flying auto-minelayer. I fitted three mines and set them to autofire and eventually I fill the entire area with mines. This is a stupid way to have to do a mission. However, if I don't the Elachi ships take about fifteen to twenty minutes EACH to kill.

As far as on foot, I have to run up to the Elachi troops and punch them in the face until they die. My weapons don't seem to do a damn bit of good against their shields.

I HATE fighting these miserable bastard teleporting douchcanoes. I HATE beating on the bullet sponges that their ships are. I HATE THESE MISSIONS.

I don't find grinding fun at all. I have been very happy with the game so far. The Romulan mission arc has been fun and the story has been enjoyable. Then all of a sudden the game decides to send you against bullet sponges with the vague "they are stealing Romulans." Someone was building these missions on a Friday afternoon.

P.S. I already read a lot of people's complaints on the official forums and am not interested in knowing just how much I apparently suck at this game. I don't play PvP because I am bad at it and don't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about that fact. I play the campaign to have fun and grinding my way through OP idiotic AI is not fun.

Agreed also the borg ones have had a revamp never liked them either they were the most annoying I did like the last 4 to 5 episodes of the cardassian front the ones that give the dominion gear out of all the cardi missions those were the most meaningful and enjoyable ones :D

I haven't gotten too far in the Federation missions (lvl 32), but I agree with you with the Romulan missions. I got my character up to lvl 40 and the missions were generally fun. I ended up rolling a new federation toon as I couldn't stand the look of the high-end Romulan ships.
Kaptain Krazy 27 DIC 2014 a las 16:53
Agreed the Romulan ships kinda beautiful yet too large and ugly at the same time but i can't deny that they are among the most powerful in the game still :) I only have 1 problem with them though with cannons the wing span makes it hard to use cannons because you specifically have to have atleast x3 ACC to be able to do alot of damage because you miss a lot of shuts when you first start shooting which makes it a waist if you jump fire at will when you first start shooting :/ KDF is more enjoyable then Fed I use to get to level 1 to level 50 in like 5 days I haven't tried a new char for them yet

Just got my Star Cruiser. Yep. So much nicer looking than my Admiral lvl Romulan ship, honestly. I don't really care for the "organic" look in my startships. I think I may roll a KDF character tomorrow and check out the Klingon ships. I never really went too far with them.

One of my favorite looking ships from any source is the Imperial Dreadnaut from Star Wars. It's big and square and very utilitarian looking, but can dish out a huge amount of hurt.

Is the final mission still damn near impossible? I died dozens of times because they think it's a good idea to put you up against a dozen of those ships with insta-kill rays. I muscled my way through it, but I think I died at least once for every ship I killed.

This was in a D'deridex, mind, not some light warbird. As an engineer, to boot.

I found the last mission to be easier than all the prior missions, honestly. It seemed to be the only one that was balalnced and polished properly and wasn't unnecessarily padded.

Elachi on the ground? Auto plasma rifles are your friend, or assault pulsewaves, plasma sticks and does damage over time through the shields... Burn baby burn plasma inferno!

Crouch so you are a smaller target (c key), and remember to AIM (x key) as aiming increases weapon damage by upto 30 %. Take an engineer in your away team, for those shield regenerators, and minefields.

Also, I recall that they give you 5 respirators in one mission, equip these devices on your away team and your self, remember to add yours to your quick tray, the team will wear theirs automatically, that reduces the gas effects, they give you the gear, USE it.

Well there is your problem, the D'dedirex. That ship is one of the less used in the game, for obvious reasons. It is incredible slow even for a ship of that kind. Cryptic said years ago they going to change that, but of course (as everything they say) that never happened. Escorts here have really easy times killing the elachi. Even other cruisers as well, but not the dedirex. And no, they are not hard, with almost any other ship than the dedirex, you can avoid those beams and remember that if you attack em when they are using the beam, the part of the ship firing that beam will be UNSHIELDED. If you attack em in that very moment you can almost kill a elachi escort within seconds.

I will agree that the D'Deridex is a terrible ship... at tier 4. The tier 5 version is like a completely different ship with with a killer BOFF layout and the fleet version even gets an improved turn rate. At tier 4 though, you would be better off with the Arkif warbird.

Yeah, it's avoidable when you're fighting one. When you're fighting a dozen, though...

So tier 5 *is* improved? Trying to decide what end-game ship I want on this character, and I've always had a love for that one.

I grabbed the escort as my T5 freebie and kinda regret it, I'm a cruiser captain at heart.

Even if you fighting 100. The elachi beam is so slow that with a ship with regular speed / turn rate you can avoid all of em with no problems. You just need to keep going up or down , or using any attack pattern of evasive manevouers to just get out of the beam path. Its really easy. Of course as i said with the tier 4 dedirex it is almost impossible. Its true that the tier 5 dedirex is not that slow, specially with that turn rate addition, but still there are thousands of ships out there better than the dedirex to fight in these missions. If you are a romulan, you are not going to see too many tier 5 dedirex out there anyways. It is not a ship that people uses. Again, "free" ships are forgettable, all of em. When you are already at level 50, your interese will be always a tier 5+ ship, no matter what. You cant "defend" yourself ¨(even if people say so) with a tier 4 ship. There is no way. And i am a proud user of BoPs, with my hetha tier 4 in the vanguard.. so xD.

That was my problem then xD You *have* to dodge those beams, and that was simply impossible in the ship I was flying. Made the mission extremely frustrating. xP

My rommie is an alt, so I need to get some stuff on my main before I'm ready to grind up for an end-game ship for her, but I've been trying to figure out what I want. Been eyeing the T6 Aelahl; considering upgrading the D'D to fleet and T5U it would cost just as much.

It very much is. The tier 4 is shoehorned into engineering with no tactical or scientific strengths worth mentioning. The retrofit has the following layout:

lt. Com Tactical, Ens Tactical, Com Engineer, Lt. Com Science, Ens universal

So unlike its very basic tier 4 counterpart, the tier 5s have access to Lt. Com powers for BOTH science and tactical. It could spout gravity wells or use attack pattern Omega.

Consoles are: 3 tac/3 engi/3 sci

The fleet version gets a 4th engi console and the tier 5U treatment gives its a 5th. About as tough as you can get.

I fly mine with cannons but its frustrating at times. If you go for it, I would highly recommend beams. So if you are like me and like the ship (I do like cruisers as well myself) then yes, get this ship. IMO the tier 4 version is nothing like it.

If you hate the Elachi, just wait until you fight the vaadwaur and their random spawning torp spamming.

The elachi missions felt like a mirror of the old Earth tales from RL. About Humans being abducted and experimented to be changed over into something else.

Now That I think about it, their storyline sounds ALOT like the collector/reaper relationship from mass effect,,
