I HATE the Elachi
The Romulan Elachi missions are sure to make quite a few newer Romulan players rage quit. I have been playing for quite a while and finally got to them and they almost made ME do it.

They have no good story. They have impossible enemies for PvE. They are FAR TOO DAMN LONG. Finally, they are far too boring.

The Elachi starships are apparently resistant to all damage other than kinetic. I finally figured out how to kill them: turn my ship into a flying auto-minelayer. I fitted three mines and set them to autofire and eventually I fill the entire area with mines. This is a stupid way to have to do a mission. However, if I don't the Elachi ships take about fifteen to twenty minutes EACH to kill.

As far as on foot, I have to run up to the Elachi troops and punch them in the face until they die. My weapons don't seem to do a damn bit of good against their shields.

I HATE fighting these miserable bastard teleporting douchcanoes. I HATE beating on the bullet sponges that their ships are. I HATE THESE MISSIONS.

I don't find grinding fun at all. I have been very happy with the game so far. The Romulan mission arc has been fun and the story has been enjoyable. Then all of a sudden the game decides to send you against bullet sponges with the vague "they are stealing Romulans." Someone was building these missions on a Friday afternoon.

P.S. I already read a lot of people's complaints on the official forums and am not interested in knowing just how much I apparently suck at this game. I don't play PvP because I am bad at it and don't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about that fact. I play the campaign to have fun and grinding my way through OP idiotic AI is not fun.

And another thing, I would be interested in knowing just how many people think getting tossed into a tiny, probably neglected shuttle with piss-poor shielding and no good engineering buffs and getting roflstomped by Elachi walkers is fun. I probably died more on that mission than I had on every previous mission combined. I hate the stupid shuttle. I totally neglected it because I never thought I would ever use it. Then all of a sudden I HAVE to use it against the aformentioned bullet sponges. Stupid stupid stupid.

I've leveled a Starfleet officer to 30 and enjoyed almost every second. My Romulan is becoming a slog. I don't care how easy you think the missions are. Whenever a MMO's missions turn from "I wonder what's coming next" to "I can't stand what is coming next" then there is a problem.

What weapons do you have on your ship? Also... what ship?

D'deridex and blue phasers. This is the same loadout that has been 100% effective in every previous mission.

I've just gotten to the mission where you protect New Romulus against the fleet. Honestly at this point I've gotten past the spongieness of the Elachi, but am still pissed about how stupidly long and padded these missions are. Apparently fighting neverending waves of enemies is fun?

I will NEVER replay these missions and that, I think, is the real indication that they were put together badly and not properly tested.

Edit: I just played through the last mission and honestly thought it was fun. I like fleet actions a lot. IMO, this was the only mission that was truely polished and balanced.

I enjoy the Elachi.

Their Stasis Teleporters on ground are kind of obnoxious, but their advanced AI and tactics are an enjoyable change of pace in space. Their Sheshar Dreadnoughts are pretty fantastic when they hit evasive maneuvers to try to line up a shot on you.

I you hate the Elachi, however, I feel compelled to warn you about the Undine. Fighting them enmass is a truly miserable experience if you're unwilling to adapt to your opponents. (Even after adapting, they're still fairly annoying at times with their constant rifts and knockback.)

I have fought the Undine in the Federation campaign and, yes, find them highly obnoxious. However, you aren't fighting 700,000,000 Undine ships by yourself.

I hate the Elachi missions because you're fighitng three or four flying bricks by yourself for most of the missions. I hate the Elachi because it takes sooo much time to kill them. They are not particularly DIFFICULT by themselves. I like my missions to be more than "fly over here and beat on these ships with hammers until they die then repeat."

And yes, I also don't like changing out my loadouts honestly. I play as a tank typically and don't like playing differently. The early KDF and the Romulan missions were a tad bit difficult for me simply because I wasn't at all used to playing as an escort.

There is no concept of proper balance in STO, it's all either mind numbingly easy or insanely hard beyond any easonable expectation.

I fully agree with this last statement.

2 things to remember about the Elachi:

In space, their ships have well above average Shielding, but their hull HP is below average. If their shields are a problem ,tetryon weapons + tachyon beam (a science power) might help a bit.

On ground, Elachi have nigh-on perfect personal shields that FULLY aborb all energy damage. However, they health is down-right pathetic. Using any melee weapons or shield-penetrating guns like the TR-116B will turn them into butter. Another problem are their gas drones. An EV suit will protect you from those.

I know its not much, but I hope that helps.
I only find certain Elachi units to be annoying. On ground, this would be the Beta's (the stasis turret) and the walking drones (seriously, the Shareth drone does a stupid amount of damage and the gas drone is just a pain if you don't have a rebreather and don't want to be in a weakly armoured EV suit). In space, the Monbosh are just annoying (not quite undine annoying) because of the constant viral matrixes they loose off not allowing your removal ability to finish it's CD.

The reason the Elachi are so hard to fight in the Rommie arc is simple. Their group sizes are larger than normal (Not including Delta Rising) and their disruptor weapons have a small chance to fully ignore shields. This, paired with romulan ships which aren't known for being durable, (I have a Ha'apax pretty much identically equipped to a fed cruiser of similar stats, the Ha'apax dies so much quicker) leads the short fights with the Elachi often winning. Make aggressive use of the cloak and it's ambush.

There was one mission I remember very unfondly, where you had to defend a starbase from far too many Elachi with just a small bunch of useless fighters as assistance.

Undine are just obnoxious in space, least fun to fight by many light years in my eyes (excluding the Vaadwaur which do nothing but run away) because it's bubbles of F*** You that disable pretty much all movement, especially when combined with their torpedoes and constant grav wells, and an enemy that loves lying around at high speed (Nicor) and teleporting everywhere (Dromias).

Ground most annoying would be, to me (a fan of shooter mode rather than "mash the keyboard until it dies" mode), the Vaadwaur as they just run and run and run, rarely ever stopping to take a shot, and when they do, crouching, making them take minimal damage unless you smack them in the face with your gun first to make them stand.

That pretty much turned into my tactics. I can't remember the name of the mines I used, but they had 80% shield penetration. I also got a huge amount of use out of a purple falchion I grabbed earlier.

Elachi are pretty easy to beat. Get stuff that ignores shields and they are pushovers.

For elachi ground, a sword is rather useful, it when activated will run you right into melee, a tac officer can then use sweeping strikes to go through all frontal targets swiftly, if they move away (which they will try to) re-charge with the blade. Engineers are ungodly monsters, a mine field and a corner to prevent you being shot will usually bleed a squad to death, alternatively sword charge minedrop will take the 'gimmick kill' to them. Its worth having a rapid fire rifle for the elachi ground, its not good on the elachi themselves but you will need to switch to it if you see drones or turrets to murder them at 'safety distance'
Elachi in space i personally didnt find bad news, however they did surprise me with subsystem attacks and the ensuing burst damage. (shields down torpedo strike, and the previously mentioned elachi weapon proc) Advice regarding how to deal with them is a two parter: have engineering team or an ability similar which removes the viral matrix they use on you, and be prepared for their one use jump behind you to 5km. Secondly (and it applies to every fight every time against any foe) ensure your doing the most hideous damage possible. Max your weapon subsytem power, max out your tac consoles with one energy type matching ALL of your weapons, dont have more than one torpedo or mine launcher in total unless you want to try something trickier to fly, dont try cannons unless you like something trickier to fly. Do have two beam fire at wills (if beam equipped) or two cannon scattervolleys if cannon equipped, if you have a torp, make sure you have two torp spreads - why fire once per 30 seconds with your damage booster when you can fire twice? got tac space left? have attack pattern beta twice, a targets lower damage resistance means more damage done by you (and any allied vessel).
Merry christmas if you observe the holiday, and a good new year to you all.

I will have to agree with you on the elachi being too tough on the other then yes the missions are long and sometimes boring during dialog but on the last hand i rather play the Romulan missions over the Fed missions the Fed missions are tottally rubbish even with their new updates :/ especially the cardassian front ones those are the worst :/

The Cardassian missions have never been updated, so no surprise. They also pay the least amount of XP, so they really need a revamp.
