Old R&D materials useless?
Okay so I'm more or less returning from a period of inactivity and I read about this new R&D system. Very interesting.....simplified!!...and all that jazz. But I also notice new R&D materials. Oh joy! More chemicals and things to tinker with! But now I see no places to use my old materials. So my question is this: Are the old R&D materials useless now? Is there any point to keeping them? (they take up quite a bit of space in my inventory) If they are useless, should I just discard/sell them? Ty for future responses, whatever they be.

Double-click on them and you'll open a shop you can use to exchange your old R&D with new R&D.

Huh, recall doing that a few times but nothing happened. Guess I'll give it another go and see what happens. Ty.

I know I did that maybe a month ago and it worked for me. I'm not sure if they removed it yet.

Ok, so after playing around a bit it seems to have worked. Thank god. Those old mats took up so much bank space.

Thanks for the help Arrow. Much appreciated.

Hey, Stark - did it do whole stacks, or did you still have to click on them one-at-a-time?

I mean the crafting material conversion packs that get put into your inventory after double clicking on the old materials.

I'm pretty sure that it either does them all at one time or gives you an option on what it converts.

Well that didn't happen at all when I tried about a month ago, and the release notes make no mention of it being changed.

Without going into detail, it matters to me because my main has over 64 full stacks of the middle process - the crafting material conversion packs - in his inventory.

Why they couldn't have converted DIRECTLY into the newer resources, I will never understand.

Well here's how it happened for me (if you already found out yourself disregard this post)
you can convert up to 100 of each mat from the old system per click. Depending on which resource it will give you a New R&D system resource pack of some sort including one or more mat items. Not sure how they categorzied what you get from which resources but they seem to be mostly random packs.

whatever you do, avoid making anything that's MK XI or XII. cause the material needed for that cost a lot of dil. such items you can get anyway cheap if you plan for uncommon or commons, occasionally there'll be rare items that cost about 20, 30k ecreds in exchange. but overall you'll always make some crafting exp no matter what you make. i would suggest selling whatever item you crafted, but considering the prices of the low tier items, it might be a waste of time.

Honestly I might not even use the crafting system except to craft something specific. Havent really reached that bridge yet., but we'll see.

I hace reached above level 10 in all R/D branches but to be honest all i do is level up or research tech upgrades to improve me gear with each branch.

Upon reaching Level15, you'll unlock the ability to craft some Cool tech:
Ground-Weapons:
TR-116 B (Sniperrifle with 100% Shield-Penetration, the enemies die with their shields full. also: Borg-Drones in Ground-Missions won't be able to adapt to these Rifles)

Beam-Weapons:
a 360-Radius Beam-Weapon with a higher Damage-Output than your 250s-Beam-Arrays, limited to only one of those per ship(an Antiproton-Version can be equipped with the Ancient Antiproton-Array from Sphere of influence Also combineable with the Kinetic Cutter Beam(would make for quite an powerful Antiproton-Setup on ships like the Scimitar)
