[Help/advice] T5 Defiant vs. T6 Phantom

Title pretty much sums it up; which one is generally considered the better ship or is the choice simply flavour?

I had been planning from the get-go to grab the Defiant Retrofit for the cloak, then move onto the Fleet variant later on. But having to upgrade the ship as well to T5-U - I'm assuming - means more work (last time I got to Rear Admiral was pre-f2p, so idk how all that works).

Where the Phantom is straight up T6, with cloak, and various other things + fleet variant later. Though apparently you lose a Commander Tac BO due to Intel Officers which is a bit harsh imo.


Anyone have any ideas?

• When missed: Self: -10% Recharge Time on Intelligence and Tactical Bridge Officer abilities.


I would go with the phantom myself but I would be doing it just for the trait and not to fly it as I personally think it's ugly as sin.

No, its not. Only because the phantom is T6 and has intel seat doesnt mean it is the king of escorts. In fact, for example the Matha raptor from the kdf (even if it is not a pure escort, but a raptor) is even better than the phantom. The phantom is as good as the fleet defiant, the patrol escort retrofit, the risian corvette and others. The only difference between the phantom and other escorts is, it is a tier 6 ship. Thats all. And of course, the cloak. I will say the same thing i say to everybody. PLAY FOR FUN. Not to have the best of the best. If you like the Defiant, pick the Defiant and forget about everything else. Period.

The Phantom is superior simply because of its ability to slot Overide Subsystem Safety and Surgical Strikes. Active Sensors and the Lance are pretty cool as well.

That said, fly what you like. The most important thing, regardless of what you're flying, is to have fun.

(Also, you don't "lose" a bridge seat to Intel. Intel is a "Specialization" and you can run any mix of Intel powers with regular ones in those seats.)

so you are saying that we need to give up on having fun, and just adquire the best ship of the game, even if that ship is only the "best" because the intel seat?? and i still wonder why this game is getting destroyed without mercy lol. You can think that way, but people that still want to have fun, they have enough with a fleet defiant or any other escort they like. You cant think the way you do, because thats the main problem of this game, people thinking that way makes cryptic to ignore everything and keep doing what they doing (nothing).

Buy raid gear.. trickseter online.. Old game but people do play it spend real money on it.. There is another game that you buy game property and sell it.. For rl money :).. So tell me sto is bad... when other games start doing this as well...

You basically said that everything cryptic releases, we need to buy it and use it. Because it is the "best" we have in the game. That is what you basically said "between lines". If that is your thinking, just re read my response again.

Having fun in this game means using the ship that provides you more fun, not the ship that is suposeddly the best, because cryptic says so. And again, this is another "between the lines" text, dont take it as it sounds.

No, its not. Only because the phantom is T6 and has intel seat doesnt mean it is the king of escorts. That is up to you.. I cant tell you which ship to fly if you want ship with intel powers.. Go for that if not then fly what you want.. :). I have the intel one because i like the play style and intel powers.. So thats only me though ^^..

I've decided I'll grab the Defiant, as I reckon it'll be more fun to play as instead of some average/barely "loreful" Cryptic design.

Yeah Defiant is good ship.. One of my fav ships on DS9.. :) Have fun with it.. Now i might play some earth and beyond or sto ^^.. Have fun. Yep just remeber when they always release new ships.. Its there way of making that extra money .. :( Most ships offer varity different play styles.. I am not saying go out buy one.. What i am saying is Sometimes bye releasing something new its there way of making old stuff out of style :/ And they make stuff look old if you know what i mean.. :(..That is what i meant..I dont like the way sto does things bye releasing new ships i dont understand why cant they just reskin the old ones fix them up :(...So yeah enjoy sto if you want some one to play with I have couple feds..

On the plus side, the Fleet Defiant does have the correct shield modifier now. Ever since Fleet Ships came out a few years back, the Defiant didn't get an improved shield mod. But apparently this was fixed a while back.

Considering the fun I had with the "faulty" version for a long time, you can't really go wrong with the one you can get right now. I just wish the BOFF layout wouldn't be so tac-overkill, but its a nitpick really.
