Two noob questions, please help.
Well I just rage quit after about a half hour in game, but I want to keep playing. So I need some help from the established community. I really, really hate it when games don’t properly tutorialize things, or worse yet; tell you there is a way to do something without actually telling you HOW to do it. Fair warning; I’m subtly enraged right now, so forgive me if that tone comes through a bit.

Issue One; I want to change my crew’s uniforms. I’m told there is a way to do this, and that I can do it once per-officer for free. However it doesn’t tell you how to actually do it and there doesn’t seem to be a way to do so. What the hell?

Issue Two; I want to view the inside of my ship…mostly because I thought the button to change my officer’s uniforms must be in there since it doesn’t seem to exist in ship view. And of course the first problem was the button to do that was hidden, but at least I found it. No…it just won’t let me use it. Keeps saying “can’t do that here” with no explanation of when or where I can, and there seems to be no where I have access to right now that allows this.

Issue One: The one time free is when you first get the officer as part of your crew, you are given the options to accept, change uniform and rename. After that you ahve to talk to a tailor. On Earth Spacedock it's located around the corner from the admiral's office, on the Klingon homeworld it's down the hall from Worf and on romulus... your on your own with that one (sorry)

Issue Two: You can access your bridge interior from a drop down arrow under the mini map, you can choose ship bridge or shuttle bridge provided you have purchased a shuttle. But I'm fairly certain you can only access them from space.

Issue One: What happens when there is no change unifrom button? Is it a bug? Because I was never given that option with either of my starting crew. It just said I COULD change, didn't have a button to do so.

Issue Two; Where in space? Because in the space tutorial instance, the warp drive instance thing, and the following mission the button was greyed out.

One of the things that makes this game so good is that it has so much depth. You will be learning how to do things for a while. As oppossed to a simple game that has no depth and will get old in no time. The best solution would be to control your anger and just explore the menus. It will take some time and that's just the way life is. If you can't find something or need help try asking in zone chat. Good luck to you. This game is definately worth sticking with BTW.

To change the uniform of your bridge officers you can only do it when you first accept them and, after that you need to go to the tailor. When you get into the tailor menu where it shows your character in the top left above your character there is 2 choices "Captain" and "Bridge Officers". If you click on bridge officers it will show you all your bridge officers, you then pick one and hit modify in the bottom right corner. This will bring up the exact customization window that you used when you created your character, It's pretty straight forward from this point.

If the button is greyed out during the tutorial you probably need to complete the tutorial to access it.

Edit: Btw i don't think there's a limit to how many times you can change your uniforms for yourself and your bridge officers for free, I've done it a lot and haven't been charged anything.

That may be true, but I DO NOT want to have to constantly restart with fresh characters and repeatedly replay the tutorial because I keep missing my chance to use a feature that can only be used in said tutorial, but isn't itself explained within.

Uniform and body customisation are not limited to the tutorial or limited to once only, so don't worry about restarting.

To customise your exisiting crew, head to the Tailor at the faction specific location Mkwarmkessel listed and you can alter your Player Character and Bridge Officer's appearance as much and as many times as you like. (There are some cosmetic items that cost 'Zen' but you will still have a lot of free options and unlock more by playing the game).

When you recruit a new Bridge Officer you don't have to go to the tailor and can immediately alter them wherever you are - I think that is what has confused the issue.

If you can do it as many times as you want for free, then why did it specfically say I could only do it once for free? Either what is confusing the issue for me is exactly where in the heak is the button to customize the first time you get them? It literally just said accept and close. There is no customize, edit, modify or whatever else button on either that dialog window nor the little character tab that popped up. Is this another of those hidden buttons Cryptic was too lazy to work into the UI proper like the bridge view button?

Because it used to cost EC to change uniforms until a few patches back, and if you're still in the tutorial then you don't get every option enabled until later on. I think it's not until you get back to Earth that you get your earliest chance (there's actually a tutorial mission for it). Normally when you get a new officer the window that comes up gives you the option to change the uniform there and then.

Tailors are little jacket icons on the map inside stations. Visit one and they will let you customize your bridge officers and personal outfits. (When you have multiple personal outfits, you can quick-swap between them by right-clicking your portrait in the upper-left. Boffs can only have one outfit/appearance at a time.)

The Visit Bridge option is a little hidden; probably because there really isn't a lot to do in ship interiors. In the lower-right corner of your mini-map is a small button with a triangle - click it to show a drop-down menu.

To summarize:

- All costume changes (character and ship) are free, with only one exception.
- The exception is that some costumes/ships cost Zen, Cryptic's Real Word Money Barter Token Thingy.
- Many things that you'll read are artifacts (artefacts?) from the older seasons of Star Trek Online. Get used to this. If in doubt, ask your fleet or in Zone Chat.
- Boffs can wear most stuff that you can. Some CANNOT be changed, including the name.
- Klingon costume slots may be bugged.
- Visiting your ship is a sorely underdeveloped part of STO in general. They can't change that without rewriting the whole thing, apparently. Best thing is probably access to your Shared Bank.
- And before you ask, crafting is useless for new characters. UTTERLY useless.

There's no reason to restart with a fresh character. It's kind of hard to screw one up and if you do, you can just reset your skills. You could just make a character and play. There's not much that will go wrong. I only restarted once and that's becuase I wanted a different looking character.
