Zen into Lobi
Hello all.

As the subject suggests is there anyway of directly converting Zen into Lobi or indirectly? I really, really, really do not want to get into lockboxes!

Damn I knew u would say that lol. So basically I've got buy a load of keys and lockboxes then? Forgive my math but how much EC would it cost to acquire 200 Lobi? I'm after a specific console.

It is semi-random. Lockboxes usually give ~5 Lobi, but sometimes give a much higher amount(50 I think). Also, there's the featured episodes event where you can get free Lobi, but I think the last one was quite some time ago.

More than it's worth :P

At least 40 million EC, unless key prices have changed a lot since I last looked, you get 5 Lobi or less per lockbox IIRC.

Not worth it in my book.

Well, I've also recieved around 10 Lobi for every Research&Development-Pack, purchased from the Store, but I think that the Lockboxes are better in terms of converting Zen into Lobi.

As far as it goes for the Keys, once you've maxed some of the R&D-Areas, crafting gear and selling it on the Market also gives you some cash to get Keys.
(I started to craft the TR116-B, selling it on the Market and made quite some millions there, after selling enough, you might wanna buy yourself some Kobali-Enineers(search for Kobali in the Exchange), as you can get nearly all Level15-Crafters from these Boxes, enabling you to sell the Crafter, when you recieved the corresponding Kobali-Version (I made a about 7million more EC when selling the R&D: Ground-Equipment than what I paid for him after getting the Kobali-Version)

Dude just farm contraband and sell it on the exchange.. it is the most effective (by faaaar) way to get energy credits to buy keys. I can get about 10 million EC every day just farming contraband... seriously. Of course i only buy 2 keys or so, because i want to save ecs as well. But as you see i have more than enough and just in 1 single day...

Dont break your head using the crafting system or watever.. that is a total waste of time and efforts and resources!. The resources you will need to craft the tr116 for example are fare more expensive that the final price you will need to sell it for.

I mean, if what you want is get energy credits fast, there is only 1 way without espending more than you will get, and is farming contraband. Since ages ago.
why would you buy mats to craft in the first place lmfao bro you are something else

The hardest part is getting the EC together to start yourself off buying keys off of the exchange, I was lucky enough to come back to the game at the start of the 5 year anniversary evnt so I made a bundle making and selling Omega Fragments, After I'd got enough for a about 40 keys I opened a bunch of boxes mostly Tal Shiar and Dominion ones. I was lucky enough to get a Plasmionic Leech Console and a Adapted Destroyer from the Tal Shiar boxes and a good sized stack of Rich Dilihtium mining claims from the Dominion ones plus plenty of Lobi. I sold the Ship and console to buy more keys and have been selling the dilitium I make for Zen, With a little more luck I should have enough to get the Lobi store ships I want and the Zen store ship I want soon.

Lol yeah I did realise I could buy the lobi ships (apart from the dyson destroyer) off of the exchange but I want lobi for the themed item sets as well, That and I'm addicted to the thrill and inevitable disappontment of opening boxes >:)

Risking bringing out the Necro Police here, but in today's STO economy, a top Lobi ship would require about 729,000,000 EC to purchase keys to obtain the Lobi.

Lobi Ship = 900
Master key = 4,050,000 EC each.
Avg. Lobi per Lockbox = 5
900/5 = 180 Lockboxes & thus, keys.
180 * 4,050,000 = 729,000,000 EC

Most expensive ship on Exchange (within reason) is the Paradox Temporal Dreadnought T6. Currently 233,000,000.

233,000,000 / 4,050,000 = 57.53 (58 keys sold)

So you could have bought three top ships instead of opening lockboxes.

True, only if you assume that the contents of the lockbox are of no value. Your thesis does not take into account the presence of items in the lockbox other than lobi crystals. As such, your position is highly illogical.

I have often sold rare packs on the exchange for prices greater than that of the key I purchased. On average, I estimate the object or objects contained within (not including lobi crystals) at a value of around 2,000,000, either for resale value on the exchange, or by personal use.

Care to share what premium lockbox that is? Because everyone I knoww is drowning in dil mining claims (worthless), as well as garbage that doesn't usually hit even 1M like photonic boffs, traits or weapon packs. R&D packs are generally a value highlight, and they're nowhere near 2M.

Overall, treating the stuff as worthless seems a more reasonable first-order approximation than claiming 2M on average.

I've only ever gotten one mining claim. Typically I come out of it with a duty officer pack or weapon pack, which vary wildly in resale value. R&D packs are of less monetary value, but the boost they add to my production is far more than what I'd get for them on the exchange.

Although I should mention that I get my lockboxes off the exchange, not from play. This way I get the older/rarer ones, leading to lower market saturation for selling the contents.

This doesn't change anything about my statement. You would have already purchased the key and opened a box. My point was that it is a poor method of obtaining a ship. There is no way you're going to convince me that you are better off, even selling the other items (most that are worth very little), by opening boxes.

If you're one that the RNG-Gods does not favor, You'll look at spending about 12.000.000ec and get only 12 lobis, and some unsellable shi*. Just keep that as a reminder.

To get 900 lobis... Do the maff... Simple maff. Sauce. Raw sauce. No ketchup. Skraaaa!
