I was disapointed to see that PVP was dead when I came back. If it wasn't for the reputation rewards they'd probably just grind story missions all day. It's dull.
IMO, it died the day "fleets" were introduced, for days it would always be packed, soon as fleets came out, everyone hopped onto the fleet bandwagon, ever since then PVP has been as dead as dirt, i loved PVP, played for weeks on end, then it just flopped sadly..

If what you say is true then there is no point to PVP at all then because you have klingons and romulans that have battle cloak then there is me the federation thats the only faction that doesn't have battle cloak and is just a easy target.

Exactly. That is the other problem. Why do you think 90% of the pvp focused players use klingons or romulans (at least until now, that feds got cloaked ships... zz)?? because they cloak, decloak behind you and pew, you are dead and you cant even know what killed you lolz..

This was long discussed in the official forums long time ago, along with the main pvp problem, the power creep, but since it doesnt matter what you discuss, cryptic will never listen to the players and it was clear that cryptic wanted to just get rid of pvp to keep focusing on pve and the power creep. So people just gave up and i think nowadays only fleet private groups use to do regular pvp battles. And my guess is, just for testing purposes.

The only exception here is to do pvp with low level ships, tier 1-2. That could always work, since your ship power creep is very limited. But thats about it. PVP with high top ships is totally screwed in this game.

Have you ever played this game before ?

But if lots of people use tier 1-2 ships then there is going to be the one idiot that comes along with the T6 ship and killing everying off thats assuming its public PVP like in the ke'rat system but the private ones and fleet will enforce it more.

But the only reason I do PVP is to try out my new build or just have fun using low rank gear with my freind and have a fair battle.

Yup, of course they are private instances. Thats the only way.

You ok man I was asking you question Did you ever play earth and beyond before?
It came out in September 24, 2002

Whats funny is there used to be a perfect defense against that kind of garbage. Science officers had that one ability that reflects damage back to the attackers, but at a much higher rate. When you saw one of those Tac ships pop their load and start firin, you popped your defenses and the reflect damage ability and they exploded before you did.

Instead of changin the real problem in that equation (the ridiculous burst damage), they nerfed the crud out of the damage reflect.
That'S not a SCi Cpt. power but a SCi power every ship starting wit a Lt. SCi BOff station can use Feadbackpulse.

if you say, want to blow some time waiting for your friend to get back sometimes you get an odd PVP, but it's mostly space, ground PVP is pretty dead, plus theres the fact that even the simpliest PVP(kill 30 guy=win), is dominated by curbstompers who have all these heavily dmg based ships so they can just speed in, spray abilities and damage all over and drop you, which doesn't go to help since it just turns people off to PVE.(which is so fun >:D)

They are dead not because of power creep ( thought that's not really helping keeping people invested into it ether ). Rather it's dead because, in earnest, what all does PVP do for you, the player? What all is there to gain in PVP? Does it record your W/L? Does it have any leaderboards to speak of? Is there any reputation or gear to earn from it that somehow isn't overshadowed by PVE's slew of materal by any kind? Does PVP give you anything of the sort to make you go "OK, Yeah, I want to do this" beyond the fact that it's there?

Let's be honest here. PVP in STO has always been an afterthought. Skills, classes, and even races where not balanced around players fighting players ( if they were even balanced at all... ). They added in PVP as a side derversion at release, and then over time gave it maybe 2 new space maps, and 1 new ground map in the 5 years it's been active. 5 years, 10 seasions. Only supported by a few new locations and nothing to net from it. Sure, you can do a PVP match for dil, but saying it's like 400 dil, vs the 8000+ you can earn doing PvE dailys, even more now with Delta's, why would you even think about it? The Weapons and armor all pale next towards crafted gear, and there's nothing at the end of the day to even look at your past history and explots in PVP to boot.

Yeah, it's pretty much P2W Tac Crit abuse hell at the end of the day anyway, but no one does it in earnest as there's nothing to get from it that matters or couldn't be gotten by other means.
Why oh why would you play for pvp!?

lol?

You must be new.

The power creep is the MAIN reason pvp is dead in this game. Everybody knows that.

what is the point on doing pvp you ask?? are you joking, right?? maybe to probe your skills in a proper fight?? maybe to enjoy with your friends?? what is the meaning on pvp in ANY game??

If your main reason to play pvp is to gain rewards... seriously, something is really wrong with you :)

Says the person with no recorded hours to stand his ground. Yeah, sub 400 hours isn't as much as others for sure, but it's enough to know the game well enough. WoW gives you mounts and other goodies you can only get via it's PvP setting and has a leaderboard ordeal to aim to get better at. GW had a lot of stuff you only could earn and uterlise under it's PvP setting. STO has...well...extra dil earnings? Other MMO's tend to encourage even casural players with the idea of gains for thier time, regardless if they can't seem to net any wins in turn from it, they will still eventuraly get something for their time doing PvP. It keeps people going into the system, and as STO devs put it outright "Keeps butts in seats". STO lacks any of that thought in earnest, and I'm sure if they did, even with the OHKO crit abuse we have now would be far more active just because people would be doing it mindlessly just to get a shiny reward at the end of the week or month.

Yeah, some people want to do PvP because it allows you to see how well you stack up over others, but in this era of MMO's, if you don't dangle a carrot in front of the players face, they wonder why they even should do it in the first place.
So many things are wrong in STO that kills PvP and i agree the motivation to PvP should be to PvP not rewards those only should be the icing on the cake or the filling of the Pie depends on what you prefer.

Faction and Class balance alone would do a long way but that's something the DEVs mentioned a dozen times isn't any of their concern as the game is about Star Trek and not PvP.

Aswell as the game is Federation focused and not much is to expect for Klingons and Romulans as those are only supposed to be nice looking bystanders to make the Federation look even more awesome.

Alone those facts are enough to see why PvP isn't going anywhere in STO and never again will do.

So either suck it up and Play it for the Star Trek vibe they aswell get wrong as it is mostly Pew Pew everything instead of exploration and diplomacy.

To be honest if you want PvP STO is not the game you are looking for other games like EvE, WoT, CS, BF, DOTA, etc. jump to mind that might satisfy the need for that and in some even the community is actualy tolarable.

It was when I saw a guy in kerrat 1 shotting people with torpedos while cloaked I decided to depart from pvp
Not a bother to us in a general sense, however it has been our experience that it frequently leads somewhere resulting in poor forum behavior.

PvP was broken from the start. In all the years of STO they have not once addressed it, publicly or secretly. They know theres nothing to do about it now.
