Star Trek Online

What the Frack is a Delta Recruit
The recruiting efforts by Starfleet, the Klingon Defense Force, and the Romulan Republic are ramping up. As the threat of an Iconian war looms over the galaxy, there is great anticipation to see all the new officers captaining starships for these three factions.

But Delta Recruits are more than just warm bodies. Tasked with acquiring as much information about the Iconians as possible by an agent from the future, they must piece together a 200,000-year-old puzzle. Delta Recruits on missions will occasionally find additional mission steps asking them to locate something on the map that will help fight a war in the future. Because of this help, the galaxy has a fighting chance against the Iconians.

What does this mean a Delta Recruit needs to do? Well, a key part is hunting down these objectives on these mission maps.

Additionally, the Delta Recruit system will reward you for reaching levels 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 on your character, as well as for reaching level 1 and 5 in any R&D School. You’ll receive relevant rewards in these areas as you reach these milestones, so make sure you are checking your Delta Recruit UI for completed tasks when you hit the appropriate marks.

Being a Delta Recruit means more than just racing up the levels. Recruits who are at least level 30 get a task to join a Fleet. This brings with it some fantastic rewards that will really help Fleets achieve whatever projects they are working on completing.

Finally, there are the weekly server-wide goals. These are tasks that are tracking things done and acquired by Delta Recruits throughout the entire server. Achieve the target number and the next week a server-wide event turned on so every character (not just Delta Recruits) can reap the benefits for an entire week. Once you hit that first goal though, a new, larger second tier goal will appear. If the server can complete that, the bonuses given in the next week will increase, and a final third tier number can be achieved. Reaching this number will crank up the bonuses in the next week’s event to the max.

There’s a ton of exciting stuff for a Delta Recruit character to do. If you haven’t planned on making a Delta Recruit, what are you waiting for?

?-----?

Questions abound.. New Captians? Are old captians not allowed to be Delta Recruits? A 200,000 Yr old puzzle that has clues scattered randomly through all the missions or only delta missions? New level system to 50.. Really? Add 10 levels, frackup the entire power/difficulty balance, and now adding 50 more sperate levels? Is expanding existing story plots THAT hard? Task to Join a Fleet? Forced Fleets now? Server Wide GOals? Will that be made public to see weither or not anyone cares enough to pursue ANOTHER great grind to nowhere? Tons of stuff a Delta Recruit can do because all the 'old krap' isnt worth spit anymore?

So far a vast majority of official forum responses are negative or at a minimum skeptical.

Everything I can find on this newest kraptastic direction is a slap in the face to veteran players. Only newly created characters can play. The award/level system is not new levels just special perks for new characters set to be in the new Delta Theme..

What utter BS.. This is the worst Idea I have seen them come up with yet. Let's alienate every player with a maxed out charater that they love.

I will pass and actually I might just pass on the rest of the game now. My characters are old and been thru so much to discard to put on the back shelf. No desire at all to redo the missions EVAH again with a new char. Will wait til this april fool's joke arrives to see if I can have a giggle at its expense or wash away the stain this last year has been.

It's a recruitment drive to bring more new players to the game. Fairly standard issue for MMOs that have been around a while; we haven't really had an updated focused around new players since.. Legacy of Romulus.

The new and ignorant players to milk money from because the existing player base isnt giving up the cash anymore.

I was idly wondering what it would take to kill any desire I had left to work on my characters. Guess I now know.

If the few friends I have left there would just join Steam, I could quit logging in just to chat lol

Regardless of what I actually think right now, I suspect this is actually going to be good. I mean, they've already made the CLASSIC ships basically redundant. They literally crippled the IP by doing that, in my eyes at least - Upgraded Galaxy Class is a second rate ship now?

That would be like making a Wolverine game where his claws were only used on the first few levels, then endgame is all about Power Armor, Mutant Fireballs, and Laser Swords. Sure, that sounds awesome - but it's not really a 'Wolverine game' then, is it?

Well, same here.

I just want to play the STAR TREK I know and love, and in the universe that I know and love.

But this hasn't been THAT game ever since DR.

I know we're supposed to 'boldly go', but - sweet baby Kahn - it should be for exploration/expansion, not because 'you old-timers aren't really welcome here any more.'

So why do I think it's good? I don't know. Because I'm stupid enough to still have hope for where this game is going. I don't like the WAY they've done a lot of stuff lately (I will NEVER forgive the addition of T6 ships and the effect that it had on my 3-4 years I spent collecting and buying ships), but I dig the REASONS they've done it - this game is more than it began as. I consider that progress, which is better than stagnation. Doesn't mean I'm going to buy another ship ever again (out of pure disgust) but it's nice that other gamers do, and thereby make my Life Sub continue to be useful - there IS that.

I also wanted to thank AbsynthMinded: because EVERY time I go to post something here that annoys me about this game, you've already typed it all out - so I don't have to.

Delta Recruitment, a new in-game event that will go live on April 2 to May 21st. According to Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios, novice and veteran players alike can earn unique rewards when embarking on a tale five years in the making.

The Delta Recruits just get added bonus's compared to other players. Delta Recruits will be playing a parallel story to that of their chosen faction. They have a list of goals that they can achieve at any time, and completing these goals will see them rewarded with equipment, Marks, and other rewards beneficial not just to the Delta Recruit, but to all characters on the same account. Completing the story arcs of your chosen faction will reward you with a unique Starship Trait for all characters on your account: Temporal Insight. This trait will proc a Damage Immunity when you use any Hull Heal on your starship.

Delta Recruits can only be created during the Delta Recruit event. These recruits can be recognized by the Delta Symbol (∆) next to their names. All Delta Recruits will have an inherent bonus trait during the Delta Recruit Event of generating Dilithium Ore upon defeating enemies, a bonus which extends to your entire group. This trait will only be available during this event and will be gone once the Delta Recruitment event ends.

Additional rewards are gained by leveling up, playing through story content up through the Breen story arc, and finding special Delta Recruit objectives on certain mission maps.

Finally, during the first six weeks of the seven-week Delta Recruit event, there will be server wide goals that only Delta Recruits can contribute to, but by accomplishing these goals, they unlock bonuses for the entire server for the whole of the next week of the event! For example, in the first week of the event, every Episode First Run that Delta Recruits complete will count towards the goal. How many First Runs they complete will determine the bonus of the week-long event running in Week 2. You will have either a 1.5x XP bonus, a 2x XP bonus, or possibly even a 2.5x XP bonus for the entire week!

Oh, would you look at that--veteran players get to benefit from this event as well.

Thanks for the very informative post. Can't wait to try this out. Hopefully, other players reading this will ignore the whiny posts and let them draw their own conclusions about the Delta Recruits event.

Yeah.. All you have to do is develop a new toon. What if I haven't a slot? What if I can't bear to grind through all the game episode content again, and again, and again. What if the thought of developing another DOFF and BOFF roster to my specifications, to suit the diection of my character, makes me ill at the prospect? The aspect of grinding and developing all my Ships and Equipment to Max level Again.. The impossible STF grind through all the Reputations..

Frack them for excluding existing Captians from being the one to pursue the 'perks'. Those perks will have to be absolutely outstanding and more impressive than an End Game damage resistance buff. Which I will probably have to Slot as a Trait instread of it being universsally available as a Power.

you will get a free char slot they said, thats for sure, so everyone gets the chance to create such a toon. If it makes you ill thinking of another fresh char then just dont do it LOL, if you feel forced cause of the benefits then get a life and stop playing. This is obviously a method to get new players into the game, and for veterean players you have the cookie that you can earn one or some perks that you can use on your mainchar. I personally would prefer a continue to the delta story and such, but i guess they see that there are not enough players in the new delta theme right now and before they develope new stuff there they want to make sure to maximise their playerbase. As someone who returned to sto with a new account like me this is perfect, though i see the salty sides of the project for veterans.
