Bridge officers question
So, i'm currently lvl 28 and i still don't know how to add bridge officers to stations on my ship. I have a ship with 2 engineering stations and one engineer (the first one you get) is assigned to one, and another is just on the candidate list. Whatever i do i can't assign it to the station. I just get the offer to "train up" my current ones in certain abilities.

Also, my current ones are still without any skills because i didn't want to spend any on them. I don't know if i should or not. Will i be stuck with them forever or can i change them? Is it worth upgrading them or should i wait? Because the way i understand it, whatever i spend on them i can't get back.

Please advise what should i do? The next tier ship i plan to get has 3 engineering stations and it seems like a waste not to fill them all.

So, what's the deal? Are the starting ones the only ones i'm gonna get or am i missing something?

you can dismiss any bridge officers you have currently equipped by right clicking on them and click dismiss , its best to go for very rare (purple) BO's , you can buy them on the exchange very cheaply, and the reason you couldn't equip your other engineer is because you need more bridge officer slots which you can buy from the cstore (250z for 2) or dismiss an officer you already have equipped.

Bridge officer abilities can be changed at any time and you will constantly be earning expertise to train those abilities - don't worry about making a mistake with them.

The problem you're running into is probably your limited bridge officer slots.. you'll earn more as you level up(6 by the time you're 50). While you're leveling up, you may run into situations where your bridge officers don't line up with the seating configuration of ships - you can dismiss officers to replace them with more suitable ones if that's the case(you'll generally want to replace your starting bridge officers for purple quality ones later on anyways).

End game ships generally have 5 seats, but there are some exceptions where they only have 4. There are some ships with 3 seats of the same profession, but those are generally special/paid ships. Your best bet is to get 2 bridge officers of each type and be mindful of what seats leveling ships have until you unlock all 6 boff slots.

As for acquiring more bridge officers.. they come from a variety of places - levelup rewards, duty officer missions, special rewards from certain missions/events, rewards for completing reputations, purchased from the exchange, purchased from the boff vendors on stations.. and so on.

Thanks, it makes more sense now.

So my ship has more seats (1 tactical, 2 engineering, 1 science) than i have bridge officer slots. I guess i can dismiss one tactical officer (i have 2), then trade him/her with the engineering one so that all the seats would be filled...

What about the skill points i spend on them? What happens to the skill points if i dismiss a boff that i've spent skill points on? Will new ones get instantly the amount of skill points depending on my leve or will they need to earn them all over again?

Also, where can i see how much maximum boff slots i currently have?

click the wee head on the top right corner of the mini map , that will bring up the main menu , on the left you will see your characters name and underneath your ship name then the name of your currently equipped bridge officers , when you get more BO slots they'll be below that. look along the top of the menu and you'll see stations , click that and thats where you equip your active BO's, as for skill points you lose them when you get rid of a BO but dont worry about it you'll earn millions of skill points

2017 checking in.

No it doesn't make any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense.
TLDR version: free players get a certain number of Boff slots to start (specifically, four.) once you get to level fifty (which used to be the level cap before T6 was A Thing) you get two more.

if you want to spend actual money (or spend ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of time farming dilithium) you can buy more slots... but at 250Z a pop per pair per character it's really not worth it.

I believe that some people might be confusing Boff slots with Boff stations, which are basically a form of ship equipment slot for Boff Space powers.

Boff powers are easy to train- you get a manual, then go into the Boff power interface and find whatever power it is, then hit "Train." then just equip the power by double-clicking. technically, you need skillpoints for this, but since they're hilariously abundant it essentially never comes up unless you start going through Boffs like coffee paper. do note, however, that you have to promote your Boffs to the power's rank to train 'em- so if you want to train 'em in a commander power they need to actually BE a commander.

people talk about using purple boffs, but honestly I've never seen much difference given equipment playing such a larger role until you hit the level cap content (and even then, Good equipment>>>>>traits) but YMMV. either way, you can pick up purples on the Exchange for not-insane amounts of EC, so who cares?

Thanks everyone in search results talks about "just dismiss" but no one says how.
It was driving me mad.
