The crystalline set I believe, from like 2? 3? events ago.
Be aware that while I own that set, I have not really used it due to the annoying crystals, so I might have missed something / explained it wrong.
Not that old. It's the Tholian set that came out this summer.
Feels longer, but thanks for the correction.
I tend to run the shield and core and omni on most of my alts until they eventually get replaced... those crystals can save your life sometimes, and for an alt they are pretty much perfect while leveling up.
The crystals also do a decent amount of damage if an enemy runs into them, which with say a Jemi ship and the wing men, in a patrol like Ninth Rule or Rescue and Search you can have a good amount spawned around the warp in location for the end waves, which makes for a great and quick level up.
The full set effect where you make the crystals suicide is actually pretty strong, if a little slow, but im never bothered to get the console (only got it the once during the event).
Tholian space set - various things, depending on which pieces you're using, will spawn crystals that hang out in space until someone gets close to them. Allies get temporary hit points, enemies get hit with radiation damage.
The warp core has become a regular part of my builds as it causes 1-2 crystals to spawn each time you destroy an enemy. In most content enemies have set spawn points/regions, and if you're someone who kills trash quickly that means you're generating a minefield in their spawn areas, which starts to take care of the enemies itself after a bit (especially if you're building up bonus damage with things like Ruin of our Enemies as you do it).
Its more of an issue that bored players fly through them to collect them since that clears out the threat to enemies... and honestly, the crystals are usually more deadly to them than the players that are collecting them when its random TFOs.
That varies depending on the reward. Some are locked out if you already have a copy of the item. I know for example, the special Delta and Gamma doff boxes will not open if you already have any of the doffs (you can reclaim the box but get an error message when trying to open it).
However... event reward items (whether they are ships or not, as long as they are listed in Event Reclaim), like zen-purchased ships, are permanently unlocked account-wide once earned. If you trash the item you can always grab another one.
Edit: So this is weird...for a few of these reward items, when I equip them on my character, the game still recognizes that I have it and won't let me claim another one. But when I equip them on my bridge officers, then it WILL let me claim another one. Also for some, if I can put them into the upgrade menu, they change from infinity mark to mark 12, and then I can go claim another one again.
