Star Trek Online

Viral Impulse Burst - is this a joke on the players?
Been playing for years, and one thing that sticks in my craw is this VIB enemy power.

Sorry , but even in SCi Fi, there's no way to make a ship hit the gas pedal without helm control or dismantling the main cpu from the engine.

***Mostly its just a huge pain in the aft. Randomly, you go to full speed and leave the battle? Was this invented by the French Starfleet ? Remove this player griefing tool please.

think it is a tactic by the dishonored klingons. i have seen it in within the briars too.

French Starfleet, FRENCH STARFLEET. Is that a crack about Jean Luc surrendering the Enterprise in season 1, episode 1 of TNG Buster? I sure hope not. As for the rage quit gun, the last time this VIB got turned on in order to hemorrhage players, 3 to 5 years ago I believe, a few other QoL features had to irreparably die and become lost to us forever before those new devs moved slow and stopped breaking things, crossing that threshold from fresh-faced graduate and into the world of causation and consequences. Grappling with the mysteries of: "why code something for the game but not implement it" will likely cost us a couple more dear game features before the hard lesson is learned no matter how large we paint "dead inside" on it to warn them off. Hold on to your butts.

Is this the thing where you lose control of your ship and it flies in a straight line, and there's this blue glowy stuff around your engines? Was this recently added? I don't think I noticed it in previous years when we did this TFO.
it have been there for a while. though i have only ever seen it in one level and that is the within the briars patrol.

Yes and it isn't recent, its been there for ages, but the range is super short (like, 3-5Km, something like that) so its VERY easy to avoid if you keep your distance.
ever hear of fly by wire? Nothing in a star trek ship, or even a modern day ship or even an airliner or a tesla car has a direct mechanical link to engine or control surfaces. It's all electronically relayed and computer controlled. So YES a computer virus CAN make a ship a plain, and even a new car hit the gas pedal from afar.

As for the game, it has it's roots in an enterprise episode. Some klingons beamed aboard the enterprise and infected the ships computers with a virus that made the ship go exponentially faster, threatening to fly it apart at the seams. For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to add it to the game. It is annoying, especially when you zoom out of the battle, JUST get back and then zoom out again. And again. And again.... LOL However you can mitigate this if not stop it completely by boosting your resistance to control effects.

Also, there are occasions where it's saved my life. Surrounded by klingons with no shields and 5 percent hull, and then I zoom out of the battle and out of their weapons range which lets me heal, comeback and obliterate them all.

Me? I think it was "divergence". But I'm not sure. There was even a mod for the game star trek elite force that turned it from voyager into the enterprise NX that delt with this.
Yeah it's Mo'Kai ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and is why everyone hates fighting them. It should straight up be removed from the game.
i found the episode. it is on disc 4 pf season 4. the boxes had fused slightly however and was difficult to open. as for the ability: there is not a whole lot of missions where it appears.
Agreed, least favorite thing in this game.
Also Rock 'n Roll doesn't make you Immune to damage... it's been that way for years even though it SAYS it does, that is a LIE!
It's annoying but it's not really the thing that bothers me about House Mo'Kai. I have more trouble with Transport Warhead (NPC version). It's basically "you're within 7km? Take a chunk of hull damage for no reason".
