The patcher lies!
The patcher says I need 25 GB to run the patch. I checked. I have 256 GB of free space on my STO installed drive. How do I geet the patcher to work?

you need to specify the right drive. the patcher seems to be trying to install to another drive.
I checked in options and the patcher is pointing to the correct drive. It must be reading the drive wrong.
or the drive`s free space could be listed wrongly. i have not seen that a lot lately but, earlier it was more common. you could try a disk scan. another solution you could try is to just delete the entire live folder. while it takes longer to patch of course, it just might solve the problem.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and the patchier is currently patching. I suspect it is because I haven't played in a few years and since I am using Linux then the game is run via Proton and the patchier probably went through several changes in those years and it probably couldn't get all the drive info that it needed. I think I just needed to redo the install to get things working again.
It finish patching but when I pressed engage it went to the loading screen which took several minutes then when It was just a sliver from the end it seemed to reset a start again then after a few seconds the screen went black and nothing happened for several minutes then I reset the computer and came here. Anyone have any ideas? Since I reinstalled then maybe I need to give the launcher my log in information but how to do that?
i suggest using the -console command in the launcher. i do not know how it solves issues but, it solves most start issues. only problem is that it uses more ram but, it is not that bad.
