Question about tractor beam?
So I'm running a Beam Overload built and I thew tractor beam 1 into the mix for some fun (I really don't care how viable it is, fun it the most important thing to me) but I've heard some people say that if you get out of activation "range" then it doesn't do dmg (not using tractor beam for dmg) or hold the target anymore despite the animation still playing and the status effect showing on the target?

Kinda, if you go beyond the 10 km. proximity then it just drops completely; even if you just popped it and then got jetted away by tractor repulsors or something. Also, never use tractor repulsors yourself; they will yeet a baddie right tf out of the battlefield and you will have to abandon the instance and eat the 30 minute cooldown for dropping the instance as there is no way to finish it then. Also, I imagine peeps who tractor repulse have huge pug wait times as everybody just blocks 'em. If you want a nice science pew pew pew try tachyon beams. they burn away the baddies shields and at 9 km. point straight at the baddie. i like to pop tachyon after strafing some boss who won't just let himself get got in a 1 shottie. When I wheel about for a second dhc rapid fire attack run, tachyon tells me exactly how much to revolve in my 180 and exactly when to straighten out and fly right down his throat to take that boss outta my sky.
I would love to use tachyon beam, but unfortunately I have both a temporal light cruiser (not a escort) combined with the competitive engines, so the turn rates doesn't make tachyon beam viable.

2 it removes pure shields ignoring enemy shield hardness & powerlevel.
the borg tractor yu, use tachyon and then launch heavy plasma torps at you.
most often 1-2 shotting you.
we developed tactics against that, that seemed to work mostly.

This is about tractor beam, not tachyon beam.
then yes, it stops working if you move outa 5km range.
well if you using tractor beam there is a ship trait that when you use tractor beam your ship auto launch's 3 plasma torpedo's if the target die's before the torps hit it they home in on other targets.

Tractors ... they're great with gravity wells, BUT I've had players with tractor builds yank my target right out of range before I can get an overcharged shot in. :steamfacepalm::steamsad:
The animation still plays, the status effect still show, and the ability duation timer still couns down after leaving the 5 km activation range... Does tractor beam still work if I don't go beyond 10 km?
