Endgame Cruiser
I run my current Star Cruiser with a good all-round build, maybe edging towards the tanking side. MACO, Omega Adapted Borg and Romulan Singularity Harness sets. Officer abilities aimed at healing, damage resistance, and assisting allies.

I'm in a big fleet with access to fleet ships, so my question is this: What's the next best ship I should be aiming for? Fleet Star Cruiser, or maybe the Odyssey ones?

Both are solid choices; I would also throw the Fleet Support Cruiser(Ambassador/Yamaguchi) into the mix for consideration. It's a very well-rounded ship that can do a little bit of everything and is great at support - both defensive/healing and offensive/interdiction.

Thanks for the reply. Another consideration: do you think that these ships are really worth getting? They don't have HUUGE bonuses over the default Star Cruiser, and I'm still not sure if I want to spend money on them. The biggest bonus as I see it is the extra console slot.

There is no need to spend actual money, I managed to get both the Retrofit D'Deridex and recently the Falachion dreadnought by exchanging vast amount of dilithium for zen. Sure it takes ages but the satisfaction when you get it for no actual money is pretty great.

It's entirely up to you and what you think your money is worth. You don't 'need' to buy any ship. Fleet/C-store ships are a minor improvement across the board, but unless you're mixmaxing for PvP, improvements that small really don't matter much(the flexibility of universal bridge stations is usually more useful than the stats themselves). I do think the Odyssey is generally worth the money though, despite being a C-store ship, its stats are fully at fleet level.

Before you sink money into a ship you're unfamiliar with, however, I might suggest trying out some other alternatives to get a better grasp of what you enjoy about your playstyle. The Ambassador layout can be replicated with the Mirror Heavy Cruiser Retrofit from Hirogen lockboxes; they, like most mirror ships, are pretty cheap on the exchange. Alternatively, rumor has it that the next Risian ship during the Summer Event will be a cruiser(from what I saw, it looked more like a solar-sailed battlecruiser instead of a support cruiser though).

If you pick all the highlighted away missions for your doffs (the ones that pay 50+ dil, not big xpl -look under department heads )
and keep farming dill and handing in contraband to security guards you will end up making a fleet ship a month.

I got an Oddy about a year ago now and I haven't looked back. I like the Oddy Tac becacuse of its good balance of consoles. The LCDR universal BOFF station on all Oddys is awesome, too. I have an engineer on it with two copies of Directed Energy Modulation (I also have a Marion DOFF), but it just as easily can hold a Tactical BOFF to double up on your Tac Team, BFAW and have access to Attack Pattern Beta III or Beam Overload III. I have zero points in attack patterns so I don't do that.

Also, get the Assimilated Deflector and engines. The Autonomous Regeneration Sequencer from the 2-piece Assimilated Set really cant't be beat for healing (it's currently broken in that it heals a percentage of your hull, rather than a fixed amount -- which means it heals a huge amount on an Oddy, but it's about to get fixed with Season 9). Put an Elite Fleet Shield on that thing and you'll be really, really hard to kill.

I like the Fleet Gal-X the best.

My entire time in STO i've used the big slow ships known as carriers and cruisers. I like to think myself knowledgable on the subject of said ships. In my opinion for hte FED side you can't do wrong with the assault cruiser refit (Regent) or the Oddys or the new and improved Gal-X (Would recommend the fleet version)

The oddys are good all around ships. High hull and shields. Great Console setup and boffs great special consoles.

Regent is more tactically focused and it comes with a special console and weapon. The console is uselss its a upgraded eject warp plasma that you can blow on command. The weapon on the other hand is pretty much worth the cost of the ship. the weap is a 180 firing degree quantum torp.

Gal-X is a very good ship if you like to fly canon. Boff layout needs work, consoles hull and sheilds are good as well.

hope this helped
