Help! How to Turn Off Shield Rings Around Ships?

I've looked all over and am having trouble figuring out how to turn off the shield rings you see around ships during combat. Mine, and the enemies. I want a more natural look. I've dug through game options and looked around online and I'm having no luck.

Please help. I remember doing this in the game a long time ago but I can't figure it out now.

How do you turn off the shield rings around ships in the options???

Rings? The shield graphics as I have experienced them seem pretty appropriate. In cannon when you see shields strruck, the graphics generated are usually a bubble shape, the shield facings in terms of the mechanics are a 4 section sphere, without a representation of top/bottom shields. A 6 sided system I think would be far more appropriate for actual newtonian physics.

Can you be more specific? I am sure there is one shield graphic related option in there somewhere..

In the advance tab of the graphics, shield facing sumsuch. Its there as I always turrn of befor screen shots.

In options you can turn it off. It's either under Basic, or HUD. Listed as directional shield visuals or something.

This is a really old thread, but I had to comment anyway because I was having trouble finding this too. Low and behold, and of course, the setting we're looking for is the VERY FIRST possible setting change you can make in the very first window that opens up when you click the options button(assuming of course that "Enable directional shield FX" is the setting to remove the fx we're actually wanting to remove). I must be blind! LOL
