Dyson Strategic Science Destroyer, good, bad, or ugly
Is this ship good, and how does the tactical mode work with the number of weapons, should i invest in getting this ship with dilithium or is it a bad ship. Thanks

I really wanted to reply with just 'YES' because they're all true, depending on how you look at it. But that would have told you nothing, so here goes:

- Is it good?

It's weak (they way I play, at least), but very versatile.

- How does the Tactical mode work?

It turns off all the Sci ship stuff (the 4 'free' beam attack, the focus ability, and the 4th/Commander *Sci* BOff ability slot), and gives you access to the non-replaceable 4th fore weapon slot and the 4th/Commander *Tac* BOff ability slot.

It also shows you a little animation and makes your ship look cooler (unless you use the Fed version, in which case you will spend a large amount of time unsuccessfuly trying to unsee the ship as a purple space wang).

- Do I need to get the Dyson set to take advatange of it? And where is that other ship part from the second Dyson set that I can't find?

The Dyson set is okay, it adds some good shield-based skills. But the ship isn't hopeless without it, and having it doesn't seem to make the ship more powerful.

And I *THINK* the other part is on the Dyson ship in the Lobi store. You could have gotten it via the Event rep back in the day, but I *THINK* that time has long passed.

- What was with that last question, dude? I didn't even ask that. OR this.

Uh - just trying to answer all the questions *I* had myself when I was in your shoes, that's all. :)

**************************

To summarize:

It turns your 2nd-rate Sci ship into a 2nd-rate Tac ship, but (in my opinion) without actually feeling second rate.

The big drawcard (for me) is that it's a great way to get Gravity Well and Cannons onto the same ship - this isn't available on anywhere near as many ships as I would like.

ALSO: It will halve the time you spend in Sector Space (or whatever they're calling it now) - it has an innate (i.e. doesn't take up a console slot) ability to jump forward 2 light years every 12 seconds or so. This ALONE makes it worth having, esp. if you aren't going to pay real cash. Change to this, get where you need to go, then change back to your normal ship when you get there - you'll still save time!

This is all basically my opinion, take it as you will.

The ship sucks. It was advertised as a destroyer/science vessel hybrid but it doesn't get either role right. For a destroyer, it has pitiful firepower and virtually all science vessels at T5 or higher can get their job done better.

When it came out, I almost bought the 3 pack for the Romulans... I'm glad I didn't.

IT IS NOT a tactical ship. It is just a science vessel. With that in mind, if you are starfleet, dont even bother to get it, it is one of the worst options for a science ship. The tactical mode is useless because you are using a fixed weapon that will almost never benefit from your tactical consoles and you cant remove it (one of the bigs mistakes cryptic made about a ship, but i guess people is used to it). Thats the main reason almost nobody buy that ship. Unless you make a full polaron/proton dyson reputation build, and it is not recommended because you will never get the maximum dps output from that ship.

BUT if you are kdf or rommie, it is one of your only options if you want a science ship. It is not a bad ship, it is really well rounded, but it will be only a good option if you are running a klingon or a romulan and you are looking for science. In any other case, dont even think on buying that ship.

Remember the main mistake is people to think it is actually a Destroyer, xD, but it is far from that. As i said, it is a pure science vessel, nothing more.

Also, remember that the "good" version is the lobi one. And of course, dont EVER buy a ship with dilithium. If you are new, learn how to grind in this game for zen / ec and be patience. Dilithium is the main currency for some things, but the most popular currencies for buying ships are zen (real money) and energy credits (to buy from the exchange). Using dilithium in ships is a total hyper mega waste, because for the other hand you dont need it. Unless you are talking about saving dilithium to trade it for zen.. thats another story.

Mostly agree, but that bit about the lobi store is misleading.

The ship in the lobi store is the exact same one that they gave away during the anniversary when it came out. The "good" versions are all in the C-Store.

If you need the anniversary one for the equipment, you can now also just claim it from the reputation event store as long as at least one toon has earned one of these during said anniversary. That also means that, say you earned the KDF version, you can get the Starfleet and Romulan version that way too.

Thank you all so much, so isnt the lobi one the dyson science destroyer, how will i get it if i dont have much lobi?

So what dyson/voth ships are good, in star trek voyager they are just op, any ideas for good fed ones
womanlover02 Aug 26, 2015 @ 2:13pm
This ship has the same turn rate as some of the fastest ships for fed, its inertia is probably highest on a science vessel, same loadout as an escort (tactical mode) and a really good console to make up for bad hhull and low shield modifier.

Wit some good set ups it could easily reate a rift and a torpedo spread iii
AbsynthMinded Aug 26, 2015 @ 2:22pm
To get the most out of it you have to get the Lobi one AND the 3 Pack so you can get all the consoles. This ship is specifically designed for the Solonae/Dyson STFs, and yes only the Rom/KDF versions are worth it. The Romulan version in particular is the most effective of them all.

But the console on it is one of the most powerful, it as the power to just driveby any ship and activate the console, giving it a shield, defense and hull boost, plus extra damage
Whats the best science ship then and what does its console do

For starfleet?? uff. The Vesta (if you think you are indestructible with the console of the dyson destroyer, with the 3-pack of the Vesta you are a god..), or the Pathfinder or even the Dauntless are far better.. and remember the dyson destroyers are T5, meaning that you should wait a few months because maybe (but only a big maybe) cryptic releases a T6 version of those ships. They are releaseing all T6 versions of all T5s, so it probably will come, but im not sure when.

Finnaly releasing T6 versions of all the T5 Hulls after everyone had paid for T5U? Well I can't say I'm suprised, but I'll believe it when I see a T6 Fed Dreadnaught without a crooked nose.

Are they actually making a tier six array of voth hip, I know this isn't he best but it does have potential, hopefully they get t rift with tier 6

It's unlikely since they don't redo those 3-pack ships and are pretty much done with factional sci ships in general seeing as rom & kdf still don't have a single T6 sci ship.

I guess you haven't seen the last infos before I.Q. fleet shut down their leaks. Eventually we'll see a "dreadnought" 3-pack with a T6 Gal-X (which is sopposed to get a better model like the Gal & Akira), T6 Ha'apax (which gets a plasma lance), T6 Gurumba with an upgarded version of it's T5 counterpart's javelin.

Though it's kinda the same situation as with the T6 Defiant/B'rel/T'varo, we know it's coming but don't exactly know when.

Again I'll believe it when it's here. Till then theres any number of ways for them to screw it up or it turn out to be a lie.
luther349 Aug 27, 2015 @ 6:46pm
on the klingon side of things its a good ship as until then they had no decent science ships i still use it over there. the fed side of things if your spending zennie there is better options. and really if you wait until anniversary time you can get the ship for free. i see people complaining on the ship not being a glass cannon etc science ships are not meant for that there a healing style with some other neat ability like gravity wells and destabling beams thats where there damage comes from not from how many guns they have.

The ship does has potential, like i said, but they should upgrade the stats, its consoles good, its tactical ability has potential, its tier 3 science and tactical bridge officer slots are really good for tykens rift and torpedo spread for ripping apart peopel and a universal slot. This could have been something to be feared, but instead treated like a child. They failed this one, hopefully they get it better in a tier 6 version (if there is one)
