STEAM CAN YOU FIX THIS ALREADY?
Honestly, it's bad enough that STO crashes if you tab out, but EVEN ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WORSE that steam is INCAPABLE of recognizing that it did. Anything else on earth, it recongizes. STO, NOPE.

STO doesn't normally crash when tabbed out. I'm currently responding to this while tabbed out.

It's been doing it a LOT lately. But what bothers me the most, is that whenever STO crashes, steam is like "STILL PLAYING STO". Mine has said still playing STO, despite the fact that it crashed severalt hours ago.

I don't have this issue either, what do you normally have running in the background when your playing STO? Maybe you are maxing out your memory?

this problem has nothing to do with steam. one or two processes from sto don't close if sto crashes. so steam is just doing what it was built to do, it sees that part of the game is still running so it things the core game is too. I have had this happend and all you have to do is open up the task manager and look for any of sto's little processes that are still running. most of the time its only two, one for the bug reporter amd one for the game that didn't shut down.

The Cryptic error reporter is the problem. also.. try validateing the game.. might find corrupted files like steam found in my version when i Changed to Steam... that was causign MY crashes... also you can play without steam.. just start the launcher (not the game cilent) without steam.. it will start normaly. or well.. atleast for me.. should be the same in your case.

lol... teeheee... yes, the n3m one is wise. You will do good to listen to him. Don't start with Steam or your life will stop completely. No more CD Key codes for Steam so even if you have a life time sub you won't be able to run very well on Steam. However, if you do have all the recommended requirements for the PC version, you might be able to log on with no problems.

for me, STO crashes when minimized. I only use the ARC game client for STO.

I use steam because I play with friends with alot of games and it's MUCH easier to co-ordinate with steam.

I have this issue too, and I can tell you that it's a fairly recent, as I've been tabbing out of this game for years without a problem. It wasn't until about a week ago when I started crashing. I figure something must have broken with a recent patch.

Same thing. Maybe 2-3 weeks.

no problem tabbing out. Here's a good way to go... log out; press minimize window button on upper right corner (will light up after mousing over - second button to the left of the right corner), then, force quit both Star Trek Online windows and you good to goooo. :)

Constantly crashes! :/ :/ It would be awesome if this would work!! I have the newest macbook pro 15 - and it used to work great until I played it through steam. Please update the client!

Been playing now for about 1 month. Never had a single crash. After patching on 12/18/15, game would not load without crashing. After finally getting the game to start, game has creashed 10 times in-game (mostly after leaving a patrol or ground mission). Very upsetting. I was gearing up to spend $ on zen for a Christmas gift for myself, but now... I don't feel so inclined to spend anything.

Guys, if you're still here, I think I found a possible solution.

It may have to do with your display settings. Try switching over to a different window display (for example, Window/Full Screen/etc.) to see if that helps any. I switched mine to Window Maximized (I think that's what it's called) and so far, haven't had anymore crashes when alt-tabbing.

Actually, steam fixed the issue I was having. The crashing is still just "LOL CRYPTIC".
