Maybe google for some tips. Ask in the game for tips and tricks. i heard at one time buffs helped in the race, http://sto.gamepedia.com/Q's_Winter_Wonderland
Also running all the time might not be the fastest way. Key is control, not speed.
That was helpful, thanks a bunch.
So true...
if your driving - think of drifting ... turn early.
And if your unsure - dont use run (shift) ... as its still winable with ease.
Sometimes I screw up (perhaps 1 in 5, or less), but usually, I start (as said, "early", you can get a bit away from your competitor) with shift+w to enter running/sliding, and then steer the whole parcour just with the mouse. Once you got the knack of it, you just have to steer early before a turn, sure you will slow down somewhat before skidding off in the new direction, and it's not the fastes way, but reliable. ;)
Oh, and "crouch" (c for me) comes in handy as a "oh-♥♥♥♥" button if you need one (I usually don't ^^), you will do a roll and can stop, so if you are in danger of leaving the track, it can easily save you, but slows you down and it's ofc better to not have to use it.
And sure, it's a superb ship, and on my main (tac) will not be replace until I got the dil farmed to buy me some T6 pilot escort, but the dread is perfectly fine for one of my other toons, and even my main will welcome the ability to fly that ship once in a while ;)
Just be aware, that the (invisible) boundary is not the same all over the track, some places you can leave it for several meters, and at other places, you will get disqualified for going far less off the track. But you can try to do "cuts" were you think possible, if you got the time and find out for each turn where that limit actually is.
(edit) don't believe it!!! You have to win!!!
There is alot to do at the event, check this out:
