Are hangars really necessary.
I'm using the Mirror Lexington dreadnaught for really one reason. The hangars. I was looking over the new Lamar class when a thought occurred to me. Are hangars really necessary? Can you do as well without them?

Just looking for some thoughts. :)

you do not need them technically. though you should use them if you have them. there is many good ships that does not have hangars but, at the same time, there is good ships that have them. you should judge a ship based on what weapons it can use instead of wether it have hangars.

Well, some fighters can be carried as devices. IIRC, they may be consumable though.

Quality of life imo really. Every freebie ship we grind out mastering it for it's trait demonstrates that hangers aren't necessary to romper stomp all the baddies into whatever afterlife pixels go to when they de-rezz. Even on elite, it's the gear more than the ship or it's pets or any number of other variables that are what matters and you can level up a promo on elite all easy peasey like if you bother to when you get there. Or maybe it's your endeavors, how can you really tell anymore; hanger pets aren't going to win you the day nor their absence lose you the fight, but they sure as shinola make everything a whole lot more comfortable. Hanger pets increase the margins between 'got 'em' and 'aw, naw, I hope it won't need a critical component to wipe away;' want more tension: fly a glass cannon escort, want to just grind out your dailies after work for that next thing you need towers of dil to burn to get: quality of life.

If I don't make it home tonight,
Bury me a onna flight deck
It's just the carrier life, baby.

My fave type of ship since the first one I got back then. The hangar pets are the main factor for me. Tune your carrier towards the pet layout and you've got yourself the easiest loot.

I run the pets. Usually valks.

The traits and so on so forth means I can put 30 of them into space off the Fed Carrier. 6 advanced and the rest valks elite. They gain enough rank quickly and go on offensive to clean up frigates and such quickly. Scoop in the loot for endeavors and such.

Sometimes the pets are so effective I might only shoot a few times with the carrier. Most of the time the pets defend the ship and add greatly to the outgoing firepower.

it really depends on the build, whether pets versus experimental weapon or a secondary deflector would be better i do not know.

I love having Hangers, My builds are so that they really help a lot.

i personally fell in love with the battle brick (Typhon) , its small , agile and its trait is hilariously overpowered when you use fighters as main damage

Yeah I love hangars but my favorite ship doesn't have any. I LOVE the Soverign class and it's variants. I'd love it if one had a hangar... no such luck though. Also even though I haven't seen any of the episodes of Picard, I like the new Constitution 3.

I have an idea how to solve this but I don't believe the developers would ever implement it. I believe you should be able to do a special R&D project to research and produce Hangar Bays. These hangars could only be place on ships without any hangars. It might also cost you a device slot or two... I don't know, just trying to balance it out.

One of the newer ships has a trait that simulates a hangar, but you don't get to choose what's in it.

I put the quad phaser cannon inside the battle brick myself. Sit there and snip the big scary dreads all day.

well back when each side had only 1 carrier hangars were OP, the small buggers would fly out, do tons of dps and had lil survivability, while you had less turnrate than even a brick.
cryptic nerfed both dps of pets and amount of pets of small type ones.
and i mean literally on normal youd solo anything with starter pets, no upgrade needed.

today id love hangars to have more possible orders. intercept also doesnt prevent pets from flying further away anymore , bug or not idk.

Yea the whole equipment stuff is a thing that should have ben changed long ago. Not like that, in starfleet command 2, you see the excellsior AND constitution launch.... FIGHTER WINGS!

They want , to cashgrab, have it only on most prem ships or a selected few ones. Same as the whole ♥♥♥♥ with "this shipclass is for that purpose thus this is the station loadout or bridge officer loadout" .... that whole system needs remaking completly... or did i miss the more science officers on the voyagers bridge compared to the enterprise D or Defiant?
Agnithrax 22 OCT 2024 a las 12:23 p. m.
Kouta? Sci ships do that. Galaxy class is a cruiser and will have more engineer seats and same with Defiant and it's more Tactical Boff seats. I don't know about starfleet command 2 but hanger pets and summons in STO are pretty kamikaze in that they tie up and slow down the trash mobs so you can take the boss ships out of your sky first then come back and mop up the little ones afters. If you go for the easy ones for a satisfying final big boss fight the boss ship tends to chew you up while you're taking out the trash. Unless you're flying a sci ship then you just are pwn the whole board; but for me a target rich sky where I red baron in on their command vessel in the midst of it all is how I like to herd muh cattle. Flying engineer vessels is the most like the shows though, 19th century capital ships broadsiding each other or just doing the old shark circle around it from a vector overhead as you do way back during leveling up your first toon or two. I don't think they're going to turn the game into that other game you're good at for you though Hoss. LLAP!

LOL Some of us have to fly Cruisers because we're terrible in Escorts. I tried flying escorts A LONG time ago (before Fleet Starbases were a thing) and I was terrible. I know now that with better gear and Pilot abilities they're more survivable.... but I just can't give up on my cruisers, I just love them tooo much.

Also is there any other fighter consumable other than the Scorpion fighters you get from the Vault mission? Those things sucked.
