This is a list of what you need to play your STO:
1. the game
2. your account details
Some would say that the account details are more important than the game, as you cannot run the game without them. That is their perspective. Point is, BOTH are needed.
You don't need Steam or Arc (which I hate to say is just a lesser version of Steam, made and run by the folks that made STO), although downloading these will make the STO install process much simpler on you personally.
If you're on the Steam or Arc pages, *of course* they will say to download Steam or Arc. That's kind of their job. But I can personally confirm that the link that Patient Nr 0 shared directly above is the BEST OPTION (unless you WANT it to be downloaded via Steam or Arc).
If you haven't been back for ages, you'll also need to link your old Cryptic/Atari account to your new Perfect World account (which you may need to create) - this is annoying, but is not optional, and I won't be covering it here because I'm too lazy and am finished typing right now.
