BOFF rarity !?
How do you upgrade the rarity of your BOFFs?
Or if you cant, how does one nowadays get good rolled rarities and stats on BOFFS?

Well, I'm still kind of a rookie with advanced stuff. The best way for me to acquire boffs is the exchange.

What I look for in stats on very rares is to have level III space abilities (ground as well - but less important for me) already slotted so I don't have to train them. Because even though your toon will get the ability to train boffs in certain level III things depending on career and specialization, it can take a while before you are ready to do so.

I'd kill, for example, for a Klingon tac boff with Torpedo Spread III already in slot three. That's because of the way that my consoles are set up. I run Birds of Prey and the consoles are universal, but even so, I have only one console in my T6 that is commander level. That tac officer has Scatter Volley III in the fourth slot. So, getting Torpedo Spread III in the fourth slot on another tac Boff won't do; it has to be slot 3 so it can be used on a 3 slot console.

You'll find, though, that many Boffs have certain tendencies so you'll see many boffs that have the same skill set across the board as another, and also never find one with certain already trained level III skills that you want. Or they are simply very rare, not sure.

Conversely, if I have say an engineer that mans a 2 slot console in space, that's a guy who I'll look for level III ground abilities instead. Because even if he has level III space abilities, he'll never get to use them on a 2 slot console.

look at the Traits of each Boff you have. You should be looking for boffs with Space traits. If your boffs have space traits then you need to keep those boffs in a ship seat. Hopefully you should start changing your boffs before you train and promote them or as soon as you reach lvl 65. Look at rarity of your current boffs, Start discharging grey or green boffs and buy Very Rare boffs to replace them. You can trade unused boffs by email or buy them from the exchange. Look for boffs on the exchange with space traits that you need on your flight crew. There is some boffs that can be gained by reward on compleation of an episode.

Space trait: Leadership, Pirate, Efficient, Elusive, Astrophysicist, Subterfuge, Infiltrator, space warfare specialist.

BOFFs

Fleet asset is where you will want to go to get your "end game" Boffs (they cost 160k Fleet Creds + 40k Refined Dil each).. Lab for Krenim, K-13 for 23rd c/Android, Colony for Kentari

DOFFs

Each Nebula has a Purple you can get.. Does take awhile to reach to the "Support X Colony" and requires a Critical success.. But is worth it in the long run (for the accolades and doffs)

You can also buy purples from the different fleet assets at the cost of 30k Fleet Creds (each of my main Fed & KDF characters have at least 100 out of 500 as Krenim Doffs)

For an Aux2Batt build getting Horatio from doing holonovel Doff assignments is fairly easy.. You can buy either off the exchange (Aux2Batt doffs sell for about 10 mil EC each)

Wut? You can buy training manuals for trivial EC at the vendor in the command area of ESD (or the KDF equivalent). I'm pretty sure that in almost every case the suite of default skills a Boff gets only come from that grouping rather than belonging to tougher to acquire crafted manuals. Every character has the ability to train their Boffs in any skill they happen to possess a manual for, and they are not required to have crafted it themselves.

You really need to dream bigger, my friend. You can go train any tac boff in TS3 for a whopping 5,000 EC which is roughly how much it costs to get a chocolate bar on Drozana. It always goes in "slot 3" because it is a lt. cmdr ability. It is not possible to get TS3 in "slot 4".

Any given Boff can know ALL skills of their profession, and all skills of ALL specializations... Regardless of what skill as Boff starts off knowing it is trivial to train them in all the common skills their professions might require.. including multiple ranks of the same ability to suit different seating in different ships.

Hey, congrats... of course, you could have just bought Ten of Ten from the Task Force Omega Rep store for 15k dil... or 12.75k since they're always on sale.

TLDR;

The rarity (the "color") of a BOFF cannot be changed, but is also irrelevant. Any ability or any specialization can the trained to any BOFF regardless of starting "quality".

Only thing the CANNOT be changed are the traits, and space traits are harder to come by (or more expensive) so look for BOFFs with space traits.

Ps. Except "leadership", all human BOFFs have that, so that's as common as it gets.

That's what I get for not paying attention. I knew that there were manuals in the exchange, but for some reason I thought that they were only for specializations. Bingo, I now have Torp Spread 3 in slot 3. :)

Thanks for the input.

As for traits, that seems like it might be dependent on races? I'm more of an RPer than a min/max guy, so I want all my Boffs to be Klingon. Most of the traits that I have on my current Boffs are pretty close to being the same.

That is correct. The "standard" ones vary, but certain species always have certain things for example all humans have Leadership.

The color (grade) of the Boff also determines the quality of their passive traits

I posted this in thread regarding the OP "BUG: Can't assign a new bridge officer"

" There is major difference between the rarity (color) of Boffs regarding the potencies of the 4 Traits they each get.. A white colored Boff only gets 2 basic & 2 standard traits.. Where a Purple colored Boff gets 2 Standard & 2 Superior traits... Now what does each of potencies for traits mean you might now ask?

Basic Trait gets a 50% bonus
Standard Trait gets a 100% bonus
Superior Trait gets 150% bonus "

The Rep Ten of Ten is a Projectile Weapons Officer Doff.. not the Caitian Aux2Batt Technician Doff
