You can produce a completely new star trek online 2 game for nearly free with zero risk at all by using AI to construct it. Because it's star trek2, enough people WILL buy it to make it profitable. Two ways you can sell it. You could have it be free to play, but charge 100 bucks to move your captain to trek2. Or you could just charge say around 60 bucks for a standard edition from the start with other expensive DLCs released over the first year. AND even if I did have to start from scratch, I would. I've put thousands upon thousands of dollars into trek online, and I'd put thousands more into a sequel, if it's at least as good as the first. And I'm not the only one.
This of course doesn't mean I think they WILL do this. Quite the opposite sadly. Trek as a whole is on it's way down in popularity right now. Once the currently running shows have ended, which is coming soon, it will probably be 5 to 10 years before we get any more entries into the franchise.
