yes, replacing the 1skill point and 1 upgrade token? i dont mind, though mk 15 gears always nice. except most lobi stuff isnt acc bound but char bound, hm=?

I have a really bad feeling about all these increased "premium" rewards after so many years of being stingy with this. First the yearly event, now this.

A cynic, which I am, might start to believe the game is nearing its sunset date, they just didn't care to tell us yet.

And while this is a prophecy (and therefore useless), past experiences suggest this new episode will again break things or add old bugs or other weird side effects they just can't figure out, and I'm asking myself how sustainable this messy state is.

Still getting the double torpedo visual, one would think that's somewhat easy to fix, no? Even if it's more complicated than I imagine, it really feels like minor things are being actively ignored to churn out more ships and this slow drip of episode content, the increased rewards and such feel like clearance sale type of deals, added in the hopes that it leads to more cash payments on the other content.

Having a really negative day, sorry everyone.
But yeah, I'm having a bad feeling about this regardless.

Yeah, that was my first thought when they announced the reward for the year long event. Felt a bit like they just gave up on the game and thought "oh well, just give them all they want, doesn't matter anymore."

No, this is a full event just not a campaign event. The specialization point and upgrade token rewards are for Red Alert events, which are short mini-events that occur between major events. This is not a replacement for that.

People doomsay like this twice a year or more, but its nothing. Until Star Trek fades off from the public view again there's really zero chance they'll close STO as the license to produce the only official Star Trek MMO is a license to print money.

What we're almost certainly seeing is related to the DECA takeover of the product. Some of it is the old dev/management people trying to boost numbers to make themselves look competent enough to keep on during the transition, and some is likely the new people collecting better data on purchases and participation to use going forward.

One of the big issues with old MMOs is that you end up with a group of unambitious people who just settle into the job and decide they know best. They tend to rely on this presumption rather than collect or respond to metrics, which leads to a stagnant product based on shearing the sheep just a micron short of skinning them. We've just gotten used to that in STO.

Replacing all those unambitious people with new blood at relatively the same time is a good way to revitalize things as there's no pervasive old culture to drag them in.

That's all MMOs, and they seem to be plenty sustainable.

As someone who has worked with the code for City of Heroes, which is the same codebase as STO, I can confidently say that very little is easy to fix because most things are very difficult to find in the tangled mess that is its source.

Given that it is strictly a minor cosmetic issue, it's certainly likely that it has been given a low priority, especially during this period of upheaval.

the transition from cryptic to DECA was the game being shuffled into maintenance, what we have now is the twilight period of content that cryptic had already put into motion prior to the handover

however, that isn't to imply that the game is being killed off anytime soon; unless there is a strong nous that the game isn't making money anymore, there is no reason to believe CBS would kill it
if the monthly upkeep is (hypothetically) 10,000 booblebux, and the gross income is 10,001 simoleons, it'll keep plodding along

more than likely they're throwing out niceties to try and reel the disillusioned and jaded back in
Sirius 15. mai 2024 kl. 7.45
I know guys, you make mostly good and logical points, and I'm definitely not one of those constantly saying this (or other games) is ending.

Good if it's just down to new management, and if so that's a welcome change.

Doesn't matter at this point anyway, I've committed years ago to this and also got my money's worth of entertainment, and I'm not saying it's unplayable or anything.

And I freely admit that I didn't factor in the recent(ish) change in corpos, might have to think about that some more.

Still can't shake a weird feeling, and that's all it is.

That would be net income, not gross income. If your gross income only exceeds your costs by a single dollar/unit, you're going bankrupt in a hurry.

That said, you'll still see the end of products that are profitable or the dissolution of companies that are profitable if there is better profit to be made by moving the resources dedicated to them elsewhere. Every product and company is still tying up time and energy, and if that same time and energy could make you more money on something else then it is better put to that something else.

STO's big advantage is the license combined with the resurgence of interest in the primary IP by the people who hold it, and who are trying to leverage it the way Disney has been leveraging Marvel... by regularly spamming audiences with new content.

It is unlikely to be because the new people are more generous with rewards - DECA people won't have taken the reins on content yet. It is far more likely that the same old guard is in control and they know full well how stingy they have been with game rewards and content - so to try to make numbers surge and apparent interest go up, they're giving people what they know will interest them with heavily increased rewards.

If the parent company sees the numbers go up under the current management they are more likely to consider retaining some of the current people through the transition, which is likely what those current people are aiming for. It's not a good time to lose your job in the gaming industry.

We don't really have any idea how DECA will run things, and likely won't know for the better part of a year.

if this STO dies another will rise. Trek Forever!!
NIkto Barada 16. mai 2024 kl. 9.48
no , were just the best gatcha game there is, all the other st mobile games suxor much harder, just google timelines, etc, anything with star trek in title was designed to attract whales from sto away. they failed miserably.
by being much worse, user unfriendly, offkey and bullishly forced pvp in some cases.

Actually that last one is a promo / lockbox, not a phoenix.
