"Unable to authenticate: Lost connection to Account server" Issue
As of right now, opening the STO launcher via steam results in "Unable to authenticate: Lost connection to Account server".

It's maintenance day.

New launcher apparently doesn't tell you, which is unfortunate.
It does prior to downtime though.

Planned maintenance should have started about half an hour ago and will likely take at least 3 more, based on past experiences.

They are doing Maintenance right now today. Says on the launcher in red text .
"We will be performing shard maintenance on September 6 from 5-10:30 AM Pacific (12:00-17:30 UTC). Please check the forums.'

That's great and all, but the launcher doesn't open to be able to read that text... :steamfacepalm:

Might be an oversight, because the previous launcher did tell you just fine even when you try to log in during downtime.

But in any case, this is regularly scheduled downtime - each week, pretty much on the exact time and time frame, so it might be a good idea to jot it down.

Scheduled downtime (weekly maintenance) used to be on a Thursday, and the occasional Tuesday, never a Wednesday. But I'll take note, do keep in mind they have botched the steam launcher multiple times before, so I figured I'd inquire.

Yeah, you're right actually, now that you said it - my bad

Whatever is going in, yes it's not supposed to be scheduled on Wednesday, now that the old noggin' got kicked.

So again, fair point and my bad.

Thanks for info re maintenance - which is usually Thursday, not Wednesday, but to be honest seems to be happening rather more often of late. As it's always timed for the Afternoon here, which is when I play the game, it gets a bit tedious, but hey ho, it's their game not mine....

My error says 'Authentication server'. That has never been the error when they do maintenance before. Also I was playing 12 hours ago and their was no mention of maintenance today. I believe this is a different problem but I do appreciate knowing it isn't just me.

Same, in fact, the only time I have ever gotten this error is when the devs messed something up with the steam STO launcher. If that is the case yet again... well, the word incompetent comes to mind.

No no, I distinctly remember the launcher this morning clearly stating the downtime.
That's why I got confused - it seemed to have the general planned maintenance time frame.

The new launcher should 100% tell you the state of servers beyond the error message though as the old one did, it's clear they didn't think that through.

But again the maintenance was very much advertised 'as usual' in the launcher prior to servers going down.
