Can't change name of bridge officers

Now I've been trying to change a name to one of my bridge officers and it says the first name change it's free but when I go to accept the name change it says I can't afford it so what exactly is the problem here and how can I fix it

Are you trying to change the name when you're first offered the BO and have that small window open showing him/her? OR after you've accepted them and then decide you don't like their name?

I think that the free name change (and uniform change without visiting the tailor) you get is when you first accept them. As such a 'limited time offer'.

Well I would but I didn't give me the option as of right now I'm doing Starfleet which didn't give me option because it was great out but when I do the original series starts to give me the option and as for when I first accept them now I'm doing it after I accept them and it still says free obviously

i have renamed my bridge officers at any point. i suggest contacting upport for help.

Certain 'special' bridge officers cannot be renamed. Also a rename will fail if it includes a word that is on the game's filter list.

Okay let me ask guess what is considered them to be special and what is not considered a special officer

special officers includes the first officer you get(tarsi, elisa flores, kgan).

Tovan Khev (for Romulan) and the other factions (except the Jem'Hadar) have one similar - as mentioned, the very first BOFF you get when you start the character.

But also (not mentioned), some of the hologram / clone / whatever BOFFs that are named characters, also can't be renamed.

In all of these cases though, the rename option would simply be locked out. If you're able to open a rename window and it just won't take, it's likely that the name you are trying to use is hitting the filter list.

And usually renaming BOFFs doesn't have a cost.... so now that I'm thinking, I'm wondering if what you're doing is actually a BOFF rename. Is it possibly trying to rename your *captain*? Or are you in the tailor settings, and the cost might be costume pieces you haven't unlocked?

i forgot about that one. i should have mentioned tovan khev too. evelyn savea is the discovery officer you are unable to rename. interesting fact i just found however: you can rename the holographic versions of the original series crew. at least it looks like it.
