launcher update error

My launcher is stuck on a loop trying to update the launcher. It drops to about 96MB and then restarts saying there was a timeout of the connection. I'm on a hard-wire and was just playing this afternoon on my secondary PC and it worked just fine, but now I can't even launch the game through steam or through the game files directly.

Anyone got any tips? I've already tried restarting steam and reinstalling the game but to no avail.

Okay, again: Everyone, before starting STO, go to your VPN. If it is on, turn it of. Then select in your VPN a Country out of yours, like Sweden, Danmark, Switzerland, Austria (No, not Australia XD) Poland or any other Country. Then turn your VPN on and start STO again. I for myself have connected to Danmark, but whatever... Only a few Minutes to wait and the regular STO-Launcher apears. From now on, you can again start the Game without the VPN. Oh, you have to update the game regardles, which my take a few hours more... there are over 7000 Mbs to update...

little workaround (not guaranteed) maybe it helps other like it helped me.

For Steam user :
1. Rename your installationfolder to something else like "..\steamapps\common\Star Trek Online" to \steamapps\common\Sto1"
2. Uninstall sto via steam and install it again, so steam is installing a fresh copy of the Star Trek Online.exe
3. Go to the renamed folder and move the subfolder called "Star Trek Online" to the new installation of the game ( like "..\steamapps\common\Sto1\Star Trek Online" to " ..\steamapps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online"
4. Start the game and check for updates (if u done it right and launcher is starting it should normally update newest files only)
None Steam users using arc should be able to do it same way via arc launcher.

None Steam/Arcuser just need to replace "Star Trek Online.exe" in main folder.
To make sure rest of the files not beeing corrupted u can delete all stuff except the subfolder Star Trek Online (eq d:\games\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online) and put the new exe into the main installation folder. (Star Trek Online.exe will download all other files while executing it)

Maybe you have to do this befor trying the VPN-Method.

Since VPN method doesnt still work for me anyway, i wish you all a fun next event, i doubt "CRAPTIC" will be able to "fix" it in time before it starts. so yea have fun you all

I got the same thing now for 3 days. Stuck on Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate loop. None of he above methods have worked for me :(
Reinstalled 4 times, tried it through Arc, Epic, Steam...ffs.

i have played it every day for weeks and it works on all of my pcs. i suggest trying to contact your internet service provider.

Ok for ANYONE having this problem, here is the fix!!! Download Proton free VPN (or anything similar). Connect to one of the free servers. I got connected to Netherlands free server. The Cryptic Launcher Autoupdate loop stopped and the Launcher finally loaded. Then you can exit the VPN, you'll need to wait for the connection te reestablish, but it should and finish the patching process more quickly than through the VPN. FFS...

Okay, this is nearly the same thing I was suggesting all the time. But it's good to see, that someone else as me got nearly the same fix. Over here in Germany does the fix work nicely.

Indeed, the VPN connection to Germany works. Thank you very much, Silver Herald, for your help. However, I believe Cryptic should take this issue seriously, as this is not the first time players have encountered a similar problem. Thank you again for your help.
