It rewards Fleet or Omega marks.
It works kinda like the single rider line at a roller coaster - the game will auto assign you to fill out a group. But it can be ANY 5-player TFO. Space or ground, etc. (The filter tabs on the bottom of the TFO screen get overridden.)
In addition to the TFO's native rewards, you also get a box containing 50-250 marks (of your choice) for Normal, 70-350 for Advanced, and the boxes also contain 10x the amount of marks in dilithium ore.
The TFOs like Crystalline, Dranuur Beach Assault, the various Competitive ones, etc. that take numbers of players other than 5, are not eligible for the random selection. (Most of these take 10, there's one or two that take 20).
In that particular scenario I drive to the top of the battle room above the Crystal and then bombard it avoiding everything around it down below for the most part.
