Pilot Mine build help
Hey!

I want to try something new, I was thinking about it for a year now, and I think it's time I've created a build.

So the premises are: I'll use turrets, mines, and be in a pilot ship. I have the pilot romulan ship bundle, I'm gonna use the tactical one most likely, tho it depends on what consoles I need.

More specifically I was thinking about the Tethered mine launcher, I have the lobi for it. Other than that Breen transphasic cluster torpedo and transphasic mines sound great. Sadly on sto wiki it's hard to gather all the bonuses you can get for mines. Damae increase possibilities are listed, but where are the shared mine cooldown decreasers listed? Anyway there are 2 slots on the back, that's gonna be 2 mines, one torp front, kinetic cutting beam, rest turrets. Except if I need set bonuses.
And I'm gonna use the piloting modifications set. Also Covert Minelayer Suite. Obviously. But I don't even know if I should use mine consoles in tactical slots.

I plan on moving all the time, and I tried that with a cannon build. And I don't really want that again, especially that I'll mainly use mines for damage, that's why I'll try turrets. Also I have the Morphogenic set that increases damage dealt behind me, tho I may change it if I change damage type. So anyway I'm gonna use the speed=damage traits, other than that no idea.

Maybe I could also try tractor beam repulsors that pull, I have the duty officer for it.

So the main questions:
-Is there a build like this already? A google search yielded no fresh results. I found some threads from 3 years ago, that's too old to be honest.
-What damage type should I prefer for turrets, does it even matter? Should I stick with polaron? That's what I'm using at the moment, so that would mean less items to upgrade.
-What specific items/sets do you guys suggest? What are must-haves?
-Spells and traits?

I know the damage won't be ideal. But if I can do acceptable damage then I could have a lot of fun with this.

I would also suggest the "Tacyon beam pulls ships closer" crew member trait. Plus dump plasma coolant or sonic boom pilot skills + dump Theta radiation universal + Proto spill trait. Lukari/Morphogenic/Borg sets + Lukari heavy cannons, then tweak to your hearts content.

The problem is: mines sucked forever and then some. With the new captain ability, odds are people will start figuring out effective mine builds, but you'll probably want to try the /stobuilds Reddit rather than Steam. Likely to be the first place somebody presents something awesome.

So you think I should wait until something pops up? Hmmmm, I can do that.

But I tought in the meantime I can start my own build but I have a few problems with STO wiki: not all bonuses are listed, only damage, thus I would have to look each set individually. Also the pages randomly reload and sometimes I get a curse error. Does anybody else experience these issues? I can barely use the wiki like this.

Or is there an alternative source of information I don't know about yet?

I'm an anomaly player, I play weird builds regularly and am currently running a Hur'q ravager escort carrier with many of the aspects you are looking into above: Reversed tractor beam replusers + Klingon fire ship trait/universal + Multi tractor beam console = constantly pulling ships behind you and watching them burn. The ship turns on a dime too, fun fun.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Love ya! Will look into all this suggestion. BTW these pilot skills scale with EPG, should I invest in EPG as well for this to work nicely?

Really thanks for this, I'll do some research based on these!

EDIT: Sadly I don't have that ship, I'll have to wait until they add it to phoenix packs.

Yes to the EPG, but you will find that balancing all of this is tricky. Lukari set + shield hardness and resistance bonuses in three slots keep me alive. That, and negating as much threat generation as possible. I have found that dragging ships behind you tends to draw their attention in a negative way, luckily they don't survive long enough to do much about it.

And any Pilot ship will do in a pinch, the fleet versions work best, hanger bays (with shields repairers) or secondary defectors w/exotic bonuses a plus.

As far as mines go, I would suggest the temporal set for it's Chroniton torpedo. When this is launched with the High yield tactics skill, it turns into a Chroniton cluster mine torpedo. That coupled with the Palatine Multi-Mission Reconnaissance Explorer ship trait: Heavy Tachyon Mine (which also fires off with the High yield tactics skill) you get a very heavy double boom from one button click. :)

Yeah I already have that ship and now getting the trait. So then should I get mine dmg consoles for this build? There is not one damage type that I would exculsively use. Tachyon from the trait, tethered is chroniton, and I tought I should go for transphasic because of the shield penetration. Or should I focus on chroniton, get chroniton damage consoles and would that be better?

EDIT: Tethered is quantum, screwed up. So there is not really a chance of getting one damage type for most weapons.

Yeah, you will have to work with multiple damage types, so it's less of a focus. And I just realised that the Tacyon mine trait triggers off of some energy weapon enhancement ability. So keep that in mind. These are not easy builds to run either, be prepared to play wack-a-mole with a giant tray full of abilities in various states of cool down - while at full throttle.

That's my plan! That's what would make it fun. :tourist:

I hope I'll get it right for the next upgrade weekend, I only have half the items I want and then testing testing testing..
