Curious question about the Scimitar
Is the Thalaron weapon even practical? I mean...it's good...but it's certainly slow to fire. Are there any pros to this "desestating" weapon thats been praised to kill planets in single shots.

Not really. Its a gimmick, like all the others in this game. Most people actually use it at first, but then they realize that its as useless as any other weapon of this sort. The damage you deal is not greater than a phaser lance or watever and surely its not like the thalaron weapon you saw in the movie lol.
I'd guess it would be more a support wweapon.

A bunch of teammates traactor beam a target "pinning it down" then the Scimitar comes in and melts it's hull.

Apart from that too long a charge raate for too little damage.

Still, a cool looking ship and I'd fly the thing anyway...just not specifically for the "supposed" superweapon.

Hellriser hit the nail there. The cooldown and wind-up are so ridiculous, and you have to hit as many targets as possible....it's a supportive flanking shot at best. Not bad opener in crystalline for example which is extremely target rich.

On the other hand, wasting three console slots to get it, propably not worth it...atleast not for min-maxing...for roleplay purposes, sure why not.

The crystal thingy moves that sloly you can pull it off a treat.

Anyway I'd hardly call those consoles wasted.

Firing while cloaked?

More or less putting up extra shields while your main ones recharge?

And the uh...the other one that I forget...

The third one is to keep your shields up while cloaked, they may have been decent when the scimi was released but now we've got so many consoles that are just outright better for your overall performance.
Also the first two things are clickies that only work for a couple seconds and have a 2 min cooldown, only the cloaked shield is a permanent passive effect which is pretty useless in PvE.
Overall with the 2pc bonus only being "okay" and the thalaron weapon very lackluster it's really not worth it.

If you really want to see your scimi's wings unfold then use the nakhul plasma wave console.
Charges faster (like half the time of the thalaron), it's damage is affected by tac consoles and it also boosts both plasma energy weapons and plasma torps 20%.
It's damge output is still not great though but at least it only takes 1 slot.

One pro about it is it looks really cool.

And thats the only reason to use it. Most players use gimmicks because they look cool, not because they are useful...
Then again there aren't many gimmicks that are that useful...oher than cloaking devices for that little boost...and perhaps the Anti--matter spread (So f-cking useful)
