Star Trek Online

frustration !!!
I started and rapidly stopped playing this game because of all the bad point's. I come back years later to find the same problems. These are (amongst others) my main gripes.
1. They havent sorted out the mechanics of space flight. Having to go round and round and round just to go up. this isn't 1st world war its future and space and stuff. Maybe they should contact the makers of the X-Universe series to get the machanics.
2. pop up windows that arent required of one of your officer telling you something you already know cos you're there ffs and if you happen to be moving at the time it locks you up and you are stuck moving in that particaular direction.
3. More pop ups. When trying to pick up dropped items click on one box then another box etc why not have an auto loot setting.
4. instant pop ups on completion of a section before you get chance to go colllect gas etc.far to much in the way of info coming in that's repeated and not required.
5. Every time you change a ship the quick tray gets filled with crap thats already there in other boxes. For instance your bridge officer skills and particular ship weapons. AND usless pets.
6. When you make a major lvl break all your traits de-activate and you have to redo them.
7. Finally. I advise none of you to take part in the buying of zen where they say you are getting a bonus. You won't get it and when you raise a ticket they will not reply and if you go to ticket history it will not be registered. IMO they are more interested in getting the money and trying to atract new players than actualy getting the game to work properly.

Rant Over !

Thanks for reading this far :-D

I fired the game up a couple days ago to see what's-what these days and found it (not surpisingly) is still the usual morass of weird, glitchy, dysfunctional bugginess. Hotkeys decided to malfunction during battle (Huh? Why is my hotbar indicating joystick controls when I clearly have any gamepads disabled?). Aw, crud! I'm being chased by a volley of torpedoes! Not to worry, I'll just Rock-and-ro----wha? How did I roll halfway over and then pop back into my usual flying orientation?! Geez! Ok, let's give those last couple missions a try - something-something-timeline-this-and-that-pew-pew-pew-pew-wowDanilesdoesn'tlooksogood-something-or-other-timeline-yada-yada-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-pew-and-done. Umm, why was my guy emitting a radiation damage visual from the seat of his pants while seated in a conference room? Ack! Oh well, I did get this cool new Temporal Operative specialization manual. Let's train this commander rank officer her-*nope*-Good night, STO.

OP, I also noticed I can no longer pan the camera or move about when dialog boxes pop up in addition to being more or less locked in the direction I was previously traveling.

Yes, and as others and myself repeatedly tried to point out to you:

Without those people you wouldn't even have a game to ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan about.

How you can "advise" others not to spend any money though is beyond me.

Plenty of things to be upset about in this game but they finally gave me a sliver of hope for my torp build: Kelvin era Photons! Those puppies fly at least a third faster than normal torps! as soon as i can find a couple of cheap ones with [spread], I will be rocking me some ass! That and some awsome trait that makes specialty skills shave cooldown off of specialty skills along with adding stacking accuracy! This makes a pilot escort quite awesome now! Doesn't work with Reinforcement Squadron (in the cooldown only) but no big deal. I might update my old post about my torp build! But the graphics seem to have taken a dump since my short break. Might just be me though...

#1 that's an engine issue, they can't do anything about that without rebuilding the entire game, and while that would be nice, they'd lose their playerbase in the years it would take to do it.

#2 Check the options menu, there's one in there somewhere to disable the pop ups

#3 Check options, there is an auto loot there somewhere

Screencap for #2&3 http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/257091902847244354/EDC0B47661F288FE384100A4326DB5234ACF7C60/

#4 check #2

#5 that's what the loadouts system was designed to counter/fix, I personally haven't had that issue since I started using it.

#6 That I will admit can be irritating, but it's only 3 days of casual play to level cap, so not a huge issue, espically as you don't need any traits to get there.

#7 Bonus has always worked for me, once they did put the entire purchase on hold, but that was a problem with paypal and the bank. The only reason I can think of that you wouldn't get the bonus zen is if you bought through the steam wallet, I remember reading somewhere that they couldn't give bonuses that way for some reason I don't remember.

As a further note they appear to have significanlty upped the difficulty, I presume to make you buy T6 ships. I returned the other day after a long absence and my T5U Battle Cruiser gets popped within 10 seconds of a fight with just about anything. Utter frustration.

welll, been trying for a while to come up with a polite way to say it, but you can still get to the level cap with just the starter ship, takes a while sure, but still doable, a T5-U is just as good as any T6, the only thing it lacks is the trait you get for hitting lvl 5 with the ship.

(PS. even though I own a few of the T6s I still fly my Nandi, while it may be fragile on advanced/elite, it has the largest amount of officer seating I've seen in any factions ships, and if I could be bothered to MK XIV gold the gear, would get better DPS then most of them.)

There could be many different reasons for that.

Does your Captain bathe regularly? Or perhaps had 'a little too much fun on Risa'? In any case, I'd highly suggest seeing your medical staff right away - they probably have some magic space soap, or some sciencey topical cream, or something like that.

**********

All jokes aside, it's probably because the player toon and the player ship share the same 'object I.D.', or whatever the correct term is. In other words: When you leave ground and go to space, the graphics and abilities for your *player character* are removed, and replaced with your *ship* graphics and ship abilities.

So, the "GOT RADS?" animation carried over from space, because apparently your engine is in your pants.

(must...keep...straight...face...)

Anyway, not that you were seriously asking that specific question, but I figured if I wanted to put my stupid first paragraph there, then I should spend just as long actually attempting to answer the question.

And as other thousands of times, i tell you again, i dont care. If the game needs to shutdown because those money whales dont buy things anymore, im totally ok with it. This game needs to shutdown, because its a disgrace to the star trek ip. As simply as that. If someone actually loves star trek, probably he will think the same as me if he played enough this thing called videogame.

And no, i really dont understand the op. But i needed to respond you about this.

I should have finished my first post to avoid confusions.

To the op. You complain about things that are totally non-important (and in most cases fixable) and you dont complain about the real problems that are making this game to be a total trash can and getting worst every minute: BUGS. You guys are amazing.

If you want the game shut down, you're doing a piss poor job, considering you are responsible for 50% of this board's activity, and therefore inflating its activity entirely by yourself. That means it will pop up in the activity tracker (or whatever it's offical name is) and the main community feed, which will lead to increased interest, which potentially means more people checking out the game.

Cause I mean, you might operate on insane hyperbole and nonsense, but the marketing/hype world relys on traffic, and right now, you're doing one hell of a job at making this board look more active than it really is.

DartHammer here again... dude, we dont wan cryptic knights here, go back to your mansion, please.

And seriously if you think steam forums has any influence in anything about STO, dude, you are more stupid than i thought, serioulsy, hahahahaha.

And if they come here, at least one honest and a person with common sense will be explaining to em why this game is not worthy to invest money on it. Thats far better than finding 3 or 4 cryptic knights doing everything they can to convince people to play the game and to waste money on it, like you do all the time.

At least, i try to keep people away from mediocre products and to waste their money in more important things. People like you just make me sick.

Dont worry about the game shutting down, its going to happen sooner or later. The playerbase is every day lower , and one day the game is going to be so filled with glitches that it is going to be totally unplayable. That day is coming, and is not so far.

Thanks dude, it makes me chuckle every time you pretend to speak for the majority when every single other person who keeps up with this board knows you're a complete fool.

Also, you really need to work on your lies, they're getting painfully transparent. I hadn't posted here in months until I saw a couple threads that caught my eye. But sure, I'm posting here 'all the time.'

And by the way, nice job contradicting yourself. If this board has no influence on STO, why do you need to be here 'keeping people away' from it?

7/10 the bait could have been better - IGN
coval Sep 12, 2016 @ 12:45am
This rating is 6 years old and IGN rating system itself is total boolsh*t

Nemesis is right. Cryptic does not care about steam forums. Every announcement, raffle, responses is being made on official STO forum (deserted by devs), facebook, reddit, twitter.

Remeber: It's not a bug, it's a feature.
You don't like some features of the game and want the devs to know, then you got best chance on reddit.

During development, they tested fully free 3D space flight, but people got disoriented and lost. So they restricted the space to child-friendly 2.5D and now every pajama-uniform wearing Star Trek fanatic whale kid is able to fly a space ship with auto-aim and auto-fire and auto-redalert ... auto everything.

You may have noticed, most Star Trek fans are not the smartest ones.

well thanks for all the replies everyone. to clear a few of them. I should have said..... after playing the full compliment of toon slots and playing them all to lvl 50. I'm in the UK but play all hours of day and night for reasons I won't go into. I test games for playability and value for money based on how I play. I'm a veteran of roll playing games from original AD&D paper/pencil/dice. I know this game wouldn't be here if people don't invest. Indeed I'm happy to spend money on a good product. The zen bonus comment was from steam transactions and steam was amongst those listed as useable.
On the tech side I realisi the basic movement is as simple as possible for younger peeps but don't forget its parent who get the game for them.
there is no problem with 3D flight as long as your settings set you visualy behind your ship with self adjustment as I quoted it works brilliiantly in the x-series.
As for the pop ups its a case of too much info in too many different places, that could be simplified with one window. auto loot is always on but docent stop the requirement to take/pickup and the two seoerate action/execution/secondary stuff is mot required. one common button could do all. the other bit was all the floaters and combat info etc that floods your chat window is a nightmare. chat is chat

anyway thanks again all:steamhappy:
CaptainPugwash Sep 12, 2016 @ 9:03am
and regarding the group play stuff. They could have solo options with bots filling the gaps if you arent in a team as they do if u don't have enough boffs in a ground action. Atleast then you know your team would do what they are supposed to be doing and not going just to farm an item
