otherwise here's also a video for getting a whole crew of Liberated Borgs.
There's no real benefit to being Liberated Borg - they're not a great playable species nor do they really sell the whole borg thing, visually. Just make any sort of character you want, wait for a promo sale (either the R&D or DOFF packs) and then buy enough to get the lobi needed for the "Borg Exoskeletal Frame" armor.
The armor unlocks its associated costume, so you can look like a borg drone wearing any armor from then on. If you want the whole look, you can pick up the "B.A.T.D. Extractor" weapon from the lobi shop too, which is a borg arm attachment, or any of the less snazzy arm attachments from earlier borg missions.
Right now it's on sale for $200 through July 25.
They actually had a 50% off sale for a couple days, two weeks ago.
The only problem with this is, depending on how lucky you get with your lobi drops, you could end up paying 200-300 dollars for it anyway, or a lot less. Lobi is always a gamble.
Except that you can use your event campaign reward for a stack of lobi. I did that last year (I had plans for the lobi, but then had to use it to repair my characters after the EV slot change.)
when i got my LTS for STO I practically went Hungry for 3 months and ate on a bare bones meal plan because i had bills to pay that i could not neglect like rent, electric, cost of cheese, bread milk, cost of internet, and cost of my medicine (milk, bread, cheese was my bare bones budget because with two of the three i can use a toaster and microwave to make myself an grilled cheese sandwich like i did back in my high school days as the high school i went to had an microwave in the caferieria and i could have milk with each meal) with the exception of an occassional filling meal from my maternal grandmother or an fast food meal with my grandmother whenever we went out for a day....it was so worth going hungry for 3 months on a bare bones meal plan but it's something i would never do again for sure when it comes to a bare bones meal plan...
Honestly, if it takes that, it's not worth it.
Mine was bought using the money I made being paid for two holidays that fell on my days off (I was, at the time, working a Wednesday to Sunday work schedule, and we had two Monday holidays five weeks apart, which I got paid for as they were "paid holidays" but wasn't required to work because it was my normally scheduled day off.... and there was an LTS sale the month in between.)
True, but I think the event campaign rewards are better spent on something useful in the game, like a new ship, including the lobi ships, but that's just me,
I know I got mine when the game first came out, so I knew it was coming and saved up. LTS were a lot less when it launched, I don't think they expected the game to last this long. The nice thing is, the money I spent on the LTS back at launch has been "paid back" with interest several times over.
when i got mine at the time it was like 2012 or so when i got it and back then the economy wasn't screwed up...but if i had waited until now to buy it even if it was on sale there would be no way possible for me to get the LTS not without missing my rent and all my other neccessary bills like electric, internet, cable, food, cost of my medicine and diabetic supplies and other nesscessary costs...so back at that time the timing was right but with the cost of everything being so overpriced those days now i would be out of luck if i tried to buy the LTS...
It will depend on how you do it. Promo packs have a minimum of 10 lobi, as compared to the minimum 4 for lockboxes, and like keys can be purchased on the exchange (though you need to make sure you bought the boxes that were purchased during promo sales). This means you can feasibly spend EC to get lobi, and if you're careful with your timing you can buy during bonus ZEN sales, buy keys during key discounts, and sell keys at the start of a new lockbox... then buy promo boxes a day or two into a promo sale when they are at their lowest prices.
The Liberated Borg species looks like a normal character but can have a cosmetic face implant. Visually they don't scream "borg", and in terms of species traits are inferior to a custom alien.. To really look like a borg you need the exoskeleton armor, and the only way to get it is with lobi.
It really depends where you're at in the game. A ship gets you a starship trait and a console, and possibly a hangar unlock... if you're lucky its a ship worth using for more than 5 minutes. If you're not a long-time player the chance that there's a ship you can actually get significant use out of is much higher, but even then you're going to find you have a very short list of go-to ships during your STO career.
On the other hand, there are space and ground equipment from the lobi store that I get very consistent use out of across all ships. The Ba'ul space set is phenomenal, and the Altamid set is among the only plasma-based sets you can get. The herald projector remains my go-to ground weapon when I don't have a specific reason to use a different damage type (eg, tommy gun vs borg, or non-AP endeavors).
Not as flashy as a new ship, but you'll usually get more use out of equipment.
That's a pro not a con. The built-in traits of a playable species are, in essence, a space and a ground trait slot that is forever locked to that specific trait - unless the species traits are so overwhelmingly fantastic as to be something you'd want in every single build forever (Jem'Hadar Vanguard gets close) it is objectively inferior to having that slot open for any trait you choose.
The "species trait" of Alien is to have that extra slot open for you to place any trait you want into it. Thus, Aliens have a maximum of 11 space and 11 ground traits of your choice while all others have a maximum of 10 and 10, plus their species traits that you cannot change.
The xBs species space trait is essentially identical to the "Efficient Captain" trait, and the species ground trait (+10% health and +6% shield regen) is garbage. In terms of the traits that the species automatically has access to (to place in open slots), the xBs have 14 while Alien has a whopping 23.
You basically reeeeaaaaaallly need to love the roleplaying aspect of a given species to go with the actual species rather than making a custom Alien. A good chunk of the species can be cosmetically duplicated using the Alien species, too.
Good luck with it.
