sto "unsupported operating system" on win10
when i try to launch the game it says "unsupported operating system" then exits. i'm running win10 w/ all updates and have scanned the os files with 'sfc /scannow'. everything seems to be in order... except sto. any ideas?

Hmm. could it be a regional setting perhaps. that is very odd. Could also try repairing the STO install. Might be a file out of whack there too

Out of curiosity, did you recently update from Win7? That's a bit of a stretch, but perhaps STO was installed originally on Win7 and hasn't updated itself?

haven't even gotten to the install. it's just the launcher. reinstall, verify doesn't do anything.

nope. fresh win10 install.

you do have windows 10 64bit installed yes?

at your start menu type About hit enter. On the page you should see System type.

its fairly recent but STO won't run on 32bit anymore

i don't need to look. it's x64.

to be clear. i meet all the system requirements, the game just doesn't think so.

Uninstall and then reinstall STO.

Navigate to your game folder, open properties on the exe and under compatibility uncheck run with w7 compatibility.
For some reason it's checked by default for me

my understanding of all the followups here is there isn't a game folder and exe yet because the installation cannot start

Nah, you start the game through the launcher, which is installed just fine, but when starting the launcher to install the game gives that error and closes it. So, doing this will make the launcher start normally, and then you can install the game through it.
