The Choice: Windows 7 or STO?
Sorry, I love Star Trek's vision of the future because it's good and honorable and full of hope - and all three of those things are wholly missing from Microsoft's spyware-ridden, remote-controlled ACTUAL future.

I'll boldly stay where I am on this one. Win7 or death.

another day, another person whose convictions far outstrip their knowledge
unless you never installed anything from KB4507456 onwards, windows 7 and 8.1 are just as telemetry-laden as windows 10 is

if you were truly as security-conscious as you claim to be, you'd be running STO through proton, on linux

Funny you should mention that, I've installed no updates published after Jan. 1 2016, and never had a problem.

Ever.

Smartass.

I've downloaded win 10 enterprise on my other pc, it has 90 day trial period, so i am playing STO on there. However my primary pc has win 7, which i prefer more, since it has less unnecessary features, runs better and i can play older games.

I would just get windows 10, because STO probably won't be the only game you want to enjoy that requires it. If you want to still use Windows 7 for older games, you can partician part of your hard drive to boot up different OS's and just press a button when starting your computer to boot to that specific OS.

Your choice, but the more outdated your OS is, the more likely hackers can find their way into any security vulnerabilities that exist and exploit them. I won't go near that piece of crap called windows 10 or windows 11, i flushed those options away a few years ago and haven't looked back.

Keep living the dream Bluebottle, my Win 7 bricked long ago and I still miss her.

What an absolute donkey. Worst thing is people like that think they are actually smart.

my windows 10 pro is mostly compatiable with windows 11 except for the fact that the intel I5 core processor on the desktop pc is an 2nd generation intel core processor which means it's not gonna be able to work with windows 11

win 7 is better then win 10 as some one who has been an expert in this field for over 25 years. Just saying.........any IT guy knows this.
Omega Man Mar 1, 2022 @ 10:44pm
W7 is so good that you are going to lose playing a game you enjoy because of it.........can you see the irony. lol

the beginning of wisdom is that one does not know anything and wants to learn, always. If you are going to claim you know everything, then you can prove it right here, right now. If you want to throw insults instead of proving it then maybe you should shut up and accept you know nothing either, in which case you should spend your time learning, always.

Alright. you do you but if you want to play those fancier new games in the future. Linux or bust or cave into a newer windows.

Granted Windows 7 was a great OS for gaming I thought. Is Windows 10 better in my opinion. By far NOT AT ALL. I get more updates with Windows 10 then I ever did with Windows 7.

win 10 is finally in that sweet spot bro. Try it out. updates aren't evil, grendel.

A broken update that basically bricked my rig in an endless install/uninstall cycle is the reason I flushed Win10, went back to Win7 updated to 12/31/15, and never looked back.

I also run Ubuntu as a hedge against the day that Win7 really DOES become obsolete, because that day is not here yet - the STO problem is an OS check on the launcher, NOT a software or hardware compatibility problem.

When STO gets to DX12, then it has a reason to get crabby. But this is just plain ol' laziness.

Of course, the Win10 fanboys I've seen here line up with that demographically pretty well.
