Star Trek Online

Lifetime Subscription?
Been playing this game for maybe 7 years. Absolutely love it and tend to have very little issues with it. Should I take advantage of this 50% off lifetime subscription sale? It's still $150 so I'd like to know if it's worth investing in?

Depends, if you're 7 seven years in, you probably have to most of what it offers (extended bank/inventory, boffs slots, ship slots, etc). The factions ships are decent (pretty good trait), but not top tier by no means.

Most LTS sales are for $200, that's the one that they got me on; the $150 doesn't come around that often. I crunched the numbers on the $200 which after 3 years pays for itself so if you think STO is likely to last at least another 3 years then it's cost/ benefit worth it. I've only bought things that are Quality of Life improvements really the Zen trickles in so slowly that by the time it stacks up I burn it on convenience instead of ships. I got my LTS because it looked like I was going to have to eventually buy ship modules from the Zen store to get fleet ships which are now grindable modules on reputation; but even now that the reason I got the LTS is moot I don't regret purchasing it or missing out on the extra $50 if I had waited until this particular sale came around again. After 7 years you know the endgame is all just grinds, the question is do you still enjoy the grind, think you'll continue to and get a kick from the voice actors reprising their old roles.

Btw, if you're trying to figure out the economics on this: The more characters you have (or are planning to make) the better value it is. Reason being, many of the perks (forementioned bank/inventory slots for example) are character specific which you'd otherwise have to purchase separately for every toon.

what about the slots where earned by leveling is written beside does one get them when the char is already 65 ?

I was lucky to get it at launch/beta, after so long I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point. It's got some nice bonuses and the monthly stipend is great but the value I got from it was it ending up being cheaper than subscribing for the entirety of its subscription only model. Since free to play it's obviously less of a bonus.

Depends how much you rate the bits and bobs I guess...

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post. After evaluating the rewards and the fact that I absolutely love this game, Star Trek in general, and plan to continue playing it for the foreseeable future, I have decided to take advantage of the the 50% off sale. I am now a lifetime subscriber. Thanks again!

After maybe 8 years of F2P, I have accumulated more than enough to do everything I want. I have millions in refined Dil, I'm working on my first billion in EC, 13 fleet ship modules courtesy of the Rep, most of the T6 ships that were given away, etc. I put $15 into the game after the first year to get the EC cap lifted and expand my DoFF complement and I still have a few bucks worth of zen left over even after purchasing ship/dry dock slots.

The difference here is that I only have the ONE character and I haven't explored the variety of ships, loadouts, factions, etc that are available. Methinks this is the sort of thing that you might gain with the LST - all of the above PLUS resources.

I haven't thought that automatic dilithium refinement will make such a difference.
After half a year I really enjoy not thinking about the button every day.

But honestly, I'd wanted more convenience features for LTS. Because I've read that in the good old days one of the features was the external chat client support, very useful to catch the groups for elite STF and other stuff. What a shame it was removed. They could at least replace it with extended AFK-disconnect time or something...

I have a lifetime sub om my main account, my Steam account does not, with all the Zen I was able to earn/buy, I got everything I wanted on my free account and after spending a little money I was lifted from certain limitations.

If you have played for all that time OP, you should have enough wealth to be able to swim in it imo, I would suggest to spend a "little" less to unlock certain features instead of a LTS.

This deal going on ideal for a newcomer?. So just the one off payment and your set with no more monthly?.

That's right. And as said, it deposits zen back into your account every month. After a few years it pays for itself. It's an ideal purchase for anyone planning to play off and on for a few years.

The main advantage for a new player is that it immediately gives one C-Store grade T6 ship for each faction; a Destroyer, which in STO terms is part way between a cruiser and an escort. Command being the specialisation is unfortunate. Romulan one looks the nicest in my opinion.

At 500 Zen per month, and $1 = 100 Zen, it will pay for itself in two and a half years.

I remember buying LTS back just before LoR dropped, i remember a discussion i had with the then community manager Branflakes about the possibility of LTS. So i went ahead with getting it at almost £144.

Almost 8 years later and it has more than paid for itself in value. So you need to look longer term, if you want LTS, you'll need to commit to STO for the long term, but that is providing Cryptic are still developing the game past 2025 where the LTS starts to pay off.

Sounds good I mean with the delay of GW2 coming to Steam i'd likely stick with STO even after it arrives. Is there a deadline for the LTS offer currently on?. Also does this game have a roadmap? was curious if more content was hinted at past House Reborn which just came out.
