There's lots of things that come into play when trying to boost your DPS - using weaponry of the same basic energy type is just one of the basic things.
The default power setting on a ship is 50/50/50/50... 50 power to each subsystem..
A Weapon Subsystem set at only 50 means you first firing cycle of weapons will do only 75% of their innate damage (before the maths if distance, armor, resistance etc).. Which if you aren't supplying enough weapon power to bring the subsystem back up, then the next salvo shot you fire will be at a further reduced power level doing even less than the 1st salvo you fired...
Also under your Space skills (before picking a Spec) down at the Captain Rank of skills (4th set of skill groups) there is 3 skill point set called "Long-Range Targeting Sensors" in the Blue Science column.. Maxing that out with 3 skill points is very important (a MUST if you use Beam weapons)... It negates some/most of the distance damage fall off with the farther from a target you when firing at it.. And Beams suffer the most from damage fall off...
A mission reward Tetryon Omni can get gotten for free from doing the mission Butterfly..
It's part of the Iconian War Story Arc..
Also this console should be easy to get..

It can be pulled from the Infinity Console prize box, which means it can be bought from the exchange.. Not sure the current going price for them is, but it shouldn't be that much..
Officers: Beam overload , Tactical team , Emergency power to weapons , Directed energy modulation.
just slapping higher-grade beams into your ship isn't necessarily an improvement if they're a lower rarity or they don't really match up with your sets
that, and generic +dmg consoles aren't as powerful as +tetryon consoles in this case, or any case really... yes, rainbow boats are a thing, but pretty much never as good as simply stacking one 'element'
