Engineers have Nadion Inversion as a captain skill, which for a while reduces all sources of power drain, including your weapons and the drain effects the Breen use.
Drain expertise both improves your drain power while giving you resistance at the same time, HOWEVER I don't recommend speccing into that if you aren't running those powers yourself.
What they do have to wreck your hull is transphasic torpedoes. Those do low damage (for a torpedo that is) but bypass 50% of your shields. Brace for Impact is a power that increases your kinetic resistance and is available to all classes. Trigger that if you see a volley of torpedoes coming.
So I guess what I'm saying is, don't get into an extended fight, try to end it ASAP. Put your power to weapons, wear them down as fast as you can and keep hull heals for critical moments when the torpedoes hurt you. The Breen are definitely one of the more frustrating enemies to fight, because they use powers that throw newer players off guard.
Do you know which ship/s in particular give you trouble? I can look up their stats and assess that way. Either way hope this helps!
Thanks for your reply. My character's career route is Science. The ship that seems to give me the most trouble is the Sarr Theln Battleship I think it's called. I'm usually able to beat them in the end, my phontonic escort ability certainly helps. It's just frustrating that they have this weapon that usually once triggered allows them to kill me within seconds.
Speaking of energy levels: Have you altered your ship's energy thresholds already? I think you could benefit from altering the thresholds so that most power goes to Weapons, followed by Shields, then Auxiliary and finally Engines.
I'm playing a Sci toon an my main as well, works out pretty well for me.
Ok, looking at the Sarr Theln I see two things that are troublesome:
It can use Tyken's Rift. That creates a tear-like anomaly in space that not only does AOE damage to anything near it but also drains power from any affected ships. With that, you wanna stay out of that at all cost, never sit still and allow it to drop that on you.
The other thing I saw is that it has cluster torpedoes. I think that may be the source of your problem. Clusters hurt, a lot. Mercifully, they only fire those every so often.
Try keeping some distance between you and the ship. The cluster torpedo itself as well as its payload can be shot down, so by keeping distance you give yourself time to shoot it down. Beam fire at will or cannon scatter volley can help with that, but manual targeting should do. If you can't intercept the torpedo in time, hit brace for impact immediately if you feel its gonna connect.
If I buy a bundle, such as the Multi Mission Vesta or Odyssey bundles, it says you can equip your variant of choice with the unique consoles from the other variants for extra bonuses. When you buy your bundle do you have to claim all 3 ships to get access to all 3 consoles? It doesn't really explain it very well.
Cheers
Yes, in a bundle you need to claim each ship once so you can take off its console and put them all on the same one. However, you can dismiss C-Store ships if you don't play on flying all the variants and reclaim them again later as much as you want. Considering they tend to get each others models as customization as well, that's a good thing.
Ah great, thanks for the clarification.
