Not raiding as such. There are endgame team queued PvE mission (STF's), which are sorta like mini raids, but nothing like in wow in length or difficulty. Most are fairly abandoned atleast as public/pug queues. Fleets/guilds run private mission as they see fit.
Majority of leveling content is story driven solo missions, most of which can be co-opped but they are not originally designed as such. A few missions here and there are solo only (usually involves flying a mission specific unique ship).

The big plus about it though is that you can actually properly play it for free. They give away Tier-6 ships two or three times a year, and since they introduced the admiralty missions it is much easier to harvest dilithium and energy credits (the in-game currency) for upgrades etc.
I really enjoy it, I've played a load of MMOs and this is the one that I've played for longest, but it may not be for everyone as it's not really focused on multiplayer anymore.
I highly advice you to dont waste your Time with this, there are many good F2P MMOs out there maybe not Star Trek, Space etc but Games you will have fun with running by People care for you and your Support.
The one i play is ff 14 it is successful mmrpg . also eq2 is another successful mmrpg there are more eve online space mmo with pvp in the mix.
There so many more i just can't name thm all :(
It is pay to play but don't care much as long as it don't cost more thn my rent i am happy.
Have fun man i hope u find what u looking for ff14 has raids new expansion coming next year :)
I've been playing for a few years, and I agree it has many flaws and far from perfect, but I still enjoy play it and enjoy it, and I can't say the same about all the MMOs I've tried. Space combat and ship building has always been fun. The Star Trek references are neat. Those are really what STO does well. The other aspects are a bit of mixed bag.
If I get bored I may stop playing for a little while. Content gets added fairly regularly though. However, if I want a more MMO-like experience I'll play another game. As far as other MMOs go I usually will play GW2, TSW, ESO, Defiance, and a bit of BDO.
Fortunately, since it is free to play, you can play a few hours and see if you like it before investing lots of time or money (if you want).
If you are looking for other space MMOs then maybe take a look at EVE Online? With that said, I haven't tried it myself yet, so I can't say much about it
I have the 900 day veteran (out of steam) and i've never subscribed, and what i can tell you is, avoid at all cost or grind.
There's no "endgame" it's more like restrictive PvE missions were the DPS is the only way to win, you can sure play with a sci or an engi, but when you notice that the tac can tank and destroy the ass of the borgs or other "high lvl ennemies" the two other classes are useless.
Why the tacs are so needed you'll ask ?
Because the devs wanted to up the difficulty, so instead of adding tactical elements such as more objectives, they just choose to add 1 or 2 millions HP to NPC so people will say "oh, it's a real challenge, this boss have... oh, it's not a boss, it's a regular NPC with fukton of HP"
If you want to enjoy the game you should really take the class that suit your playstyle, but if you want to suceed and deal a high DPS, go for a romulan tac ( real money will be needed even if you don't pick up romulan or a tac char, or just grind for the rest of your life)
The ground part is what i've enjoyed the most, because it kept the rules, every class is useful when you do ground STF, in my opinion, the engi is the funniest class (because turrets, neutronic mortar and ORBITAL STRIKE), but if you really want to fight Borgs, i recommend taking a weapon called TR116-B.
Some people likes the game, but regarding it's evolution across the years, it lost most of the fun.
NB: So as long as fighting ennemies with fukton of HP, being OS by magical invisible torpedoes of doom or spending your money don't bother you, this game is for you.
