Unable to authenticate: Connection to the account server timed out

Anyone know how to fix this? My friends is playing the game so cant be that the server is down that some ppl on google says.

It could be a couple of different issues;

Firewall-
Try adding the STO exe as an allowed program, or whatever your firewall's equivalent of it is.

Servers-
There's a chance the server doesn't like your IP or internet and might be restricting you from logging in.

Craptic Error-
Might be a problem with them somehow. Usually is everytime people can't log on or DC.

Game Files-
Try verifying the integrity of your game cache through the properties on steam. It should make sure all of the files are there and working.

Season-
Season 13 just released and sometimes the authentication servers go down. I've seen it reported a lot that every time a new season comes out, when they get a surge in log ins, the servers sometimes act up.
