Regarding the Jupiter Carrier...
Is it worth the investment?

EDIT: Another question I have, are T5-U ships equivalent to T6 ships?

Well i have one now, after having the Atrox, it is ok as a carrier. It has 2 hangars, T6, and has a special console. Has a science ship build but real slow turn rate and huge body. I played some delta quadrant content this week with it solo and didn't see anything wrong with the hangar pets or ship. I have delta flyers and runabouts for pets. I added the Point Defense System console. The stats are better than the Atrox, of course.
The Jupiter Carrier features one bridge officer specialist seat = Lieutenant Commander Engineering-Intelligence.

Other Pro-DPS Min / Max players hate carriers and hangar pets, and will spew hate on this ship.

Having flown a jupiter I'd have to say it's not worth it.

The narcine is a better carrier and its a t5, possibly getting a t6 version at somepoint relatively soon... ish.

Likewise the denuos is a better carrier with the addition of temporal toys, not just the extra weapon slot from being a dread carrier, downside is that if you want the specific frigates you'll have to buy the arehbus destroyer to unlock them.

Ignore n3mes1s. Any ship can be used as long as you think it's fun, it's your money and your account after all.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

I have the ship, I like it. It's lvl5 unlock is fun, good if you want to go back to a more agile carrier. The ship is tough and it can take quite a beating, the obvious problem is it's frontal firing arc (i.e; most Science offensive based abilities). I would suggest slotting in tractor beam repulsors, since the enemy always seems to try to get behind you. The default pets are pretty good by comparrison, the only worry is constantly having to switch between various hanger commands to get them to do anything. If you can, put the tractor beam mines in. Additional crowd control never hurts.

Ignore this guy, he has no clue at all about this game.

Thats the problem. Carriers are not fun. You just dont get it, period. If you knew something about carriers, you should know this by now.

I would very much like an explanation why carriers aren't fun, if you don't mind.

They're not fun because he says they are.

Personally I think the whole dread vs vanilla carrier is a bit pointless as the only real difference is a single weapon slot. Depends how pedantic you are about the definition beyond it having two hangars and ability to use frigates.

For the jupiter and other barge like ships you're best avoiding torps up front because the number of times you get to use them are going to be much lower than in other ships. Focus on beams and broadsides.

The t'laru carrier is a bit of an exception as it has a 4/2 setup so is more frontal assault focus.

As chronolord said tractor mines are a good choice for in the back of a slower ship, also they're free from a romulan arc mission. Nukara rep web mines are another option, longer cooldown but they will target different ships and work against pretty much everything.

My favorite full carrier is the Breen Sarr Theln Carrier. Ugly as sin, but I've ran her in just about all content and never had any real issue.

But I have been playing on and off since closed beta and I know how to get the hanger pets to generally do what I want. Though there are times they are special and won't listen.

Carrier pets can be nice, despite their AI being less than spectacular. Yeah, you aren't gonna get the same damage out of a carrier as a Kelvin Intel Dread or Scimitar, but they're still decent ships.

The reason why some don't like the Carrier, specifically ones like the Jupiter carrier, is that you are getting a slow moving, slow turning vessel with only 3 foreward firing weapon mounts and 3 aft. The trade off is supposed to be having 2 hanger bays. Problem is, some people have done testing and found that the fighters do not provide enough damage to make up for two less weapon slots.

This combined with the fact the fighter controls don't work, and that leads to people dumping on the carriers.

However, this game isn't terribly hard. It's not like you won't be able to play endgame. Just be sure this is something you truly want, that will truly make the game fun for you before you invest in buying a Jupiter.

Thank you. This is a much more sensible answer than n3mes1s'.

You can't even write a sentence without screwing up it's cohesion, and you're 40 years old. There's a problem with that.
