At the moment, I'm playing with a forward battery of 4 photon torpedo tubes, 3 antiproton turrets in the rear. My DPS is around 5K (not counting bridge officer abilities).
Upgrading stuff is useful, not necessary though.
Yeah, I'm surprised at how well this is going, even with MK II equipment. I can hold my own in most advanced PVEs.
Some ingredients I remember (you don't need all of them to have fun, I just list them for the sake of completion):
- 1x cluster torpedo fore, 1 aft, use nothing but regular torpedoes otherwise (cluster torpedo can get be gotten from a Breen mission as a reward)
- 3x purple projectile duty officers (this will increase your rate of fire immensly)
- Ferrofluid Hydrolic Assembly from Terran Reputation, will allow you bypass shared torpedo cooldowns
- Torpedo High Yield III / Spread III BOFF powers
- Torpedo trait unlock from Projectile R&D rank 15 for another 10% shield penetration on top of the 50% the transphasics already have
- Omega Kinetic Shearing trait from Omega Reputation, this stacks very fast with the above setup
- anything that raises torpedo damage as well as shield/armor penetration
- Kemocite Laced Weaponry BOFF power (from exchange/lockbox)
and finally
- Concentrate Firepower BOFF power (requires a ship with command spec seating.
I use this build on a Warbird and its great fun, especially on ships with enhanced battlecloak. It confuses the hell out of people lol
Much appreciated. I can't view most of the reputation equipment yet, and I haven't been sure where to focus my efforts. I'll have to grind out some Terran marks.
You gave me the urge to try a torp boat. Are you going to have all mixed, or all the same kind?
Oh yes, it procs at 100% chance on torpedoes, hence why I figured its worth adding. This is unlike energy weapons where the chance is much lower (but because they fire much faster, that compensates for that).
I'm working on the Terran and Omega reputation points at the moment, trying to get the cooldown buff and the kinetic shearing respectively. Today I plan to respec my skill tree to focus on torpedo stuff, and re-arrange my bridge officer skills for the max level torpedo abilities and as many shield/energy drains as I can manage.
An unexpected benefit of this arrangement is that I can run my shields at maximum power all the time, since I don't need to put anything into weapon power anymore.
And don't forget to stick a weapon on for shooting down hangar pets. My torpedo build when I first started I faced a carrier that kept shooting down my torpedoes and not enough hit to do consistent damange. Made an extremely long mission
