your science officers are health healers and your engineers are shield healers. Betazoids also get a bonus so Betazoid Science Boff's are gud

Well Science players can equip instant and over-time heals on ground. In space, healing is spread out over engineering and science abilities, but building a dedicated healer is kinda unnecessary.

Not to mention it would be stressful to play, as most players I have seen, no matter how low their HP gets, always seem to try their hardest to prevent me from getting into heal-range (10 kms).

In Space, Science is mostly for Shield healing and Engineering mostly for Hull healing. On Ground, Science heals your health and Engineering heals your shield, but has 1 Medical box.

Trying to fill the role of Healer only in STO will be impossible, unapreciated and not fun.

My Sci-toon is pretty good at drain, placate, buff and defubb, but in the end, what ends the battle is the unavoidable pew-pew. Staying alive forever is pretty pointless, if one cannot finish off ones enemies.

Healer with hella engis or the red guys is pretty fine. Stack yur hos for damage and heal them. Drain in space!

Yes, but healers don't have much tactical value in space combat and aren't desired. They're much more valuable in ground combat, but the playerbase tends to avoid any ground combat that would challenge them enough to require a healer. Just play a science branch officer and if you don't find opportunities to play a healer, they're pretty easy to convert to dps.

This game is to DPS focused to really get in to a tank/heal setup. Usually the best heal/tank is DPS'n things down before you die. That said my engineer has shield and health generators that do decent on ground. If you take four engie boffs down on ground missions you can mortar and mine your way to success while having them carry shield and health generators as well.

Word! My man...

Edit: He says enginneer can be really good too... ...but nothing beats science to collect them all, suck them dry, and have a friend that pounce fancy spread torpeedoes...
