Not to mention it would be stressful to play, as most players I have seen, no matter how low their HP gets, always seem to try their hardest to prevent me from getting into heal-range (10 kms).

Yes, but healers don't have much tactical value in space combat and aren't desired. They're much more valuable in ground combat, but the playerbase tends to avoid any ground combat that would challenge them enough to require a healer. Just play a science branch officer and if you don't find opportunities to play a healer, they're pretty easy to convert to dps.

Edit: He says enginneer can be really good too... ...but nothing beats science to collect them all, suck them dry, and have a friend that pounce fancy spread torpeedoes...
