tactical, engineering, science. whats the difference?
im interested, if there is any signifficant difference in what you choose.
all i have seen is that on missions one has to click that console, the other - the other console.
and some insignifficant skill set differences.
also seen in here, people say DPS FTW, which makes me think that there is nothing but combat.
ive been following story till 40lvl and havent seen anything.

There is Nothing but combat in STO, mostly. There are career specific conversation and action choices built into some quests, but those don't change the story. The engineer are mostly tanky builds. The science captain is mostly support builds. The tactical captain makes damaging builds. The traits and skill tree can be set to swing a career to another role but they don't change much.

my sci can do 45-50 dps...more than just support...

Yeah, sci is reasonably easy to do a smart dps-oriented build with. Engineer, probably trickier. I guess one could go all glass cannon with choice of ship, equipment and boffs and rely on class "panic buttons" to stay in the fight.

Engineers can easily overcap their weapon power and sustain moderate dps amongst many volleys.

seems like there is no significant difference. its just flavouring.

now my problem is the vast ammount of skills that i have to click. if you feel like going offtopic and give me some way around that madness, do so.

How it should work

Tactical buffs your DPS with skills
Engineering buffs your healing as a tank
Science debuffs the enemy

In reality or STO Tac is better DPS, engi is normal DPS and sci is less DPS

However because the way the game is, some people have set ups with Sci and Eng captains with huge DPS, the mad genius.

STO could honestly do with a shake up and a few extra Captains Command, Medical etc etc ATM you can have a Rom Tac captain that can solo Borg EG PvE queues on elite. Hell there is youtube videos of people doing 96k DPS in t4 ships

Google STO DPS setup and you will find them all
