You only need to press the spacebar once, then watch it go, still have to manually activate all your abilities though, can't automate those.
For firing at everything in range you'll need the Fire At Will ability.
Yeah best one can get is semi automated for those you always want to have up:

While this would require you to press a button for each ability they would be cast in a certain order when not on CD... imho the most layed back way to play STO while still not loosing too much DPS if the important abilities are used manually.
There was also a neat tool to support one building up a binding macro but i always forget the name..
As a note to the OP in the options menu under controls there should be an option called Auto-Attacl Set this to "Toggle, Non-Combat Cancels" and it will keep shooting until all in-range targets are defeated. Other options also help it continue to select targets.
