Dilithium economy?
So unless I'm missing something, you can't refine more than 8000 dilithium per day. (Excepting the fleet mine duty officer thing)

This poses something of a vague annoyance to me, as I tend to accumulate a lot of the ore without really trying. I barely play this game, and I'm constantly floating at around 90K. Is there anything to do with it besides waiting for the game to decide I'm allowed to refine it? Because if so, that's a really suckish economy ceiling.

There's an assignment at one of the fleet bases (dil mine I believe) that allows you to refine more dil (like 500) I believe. Veterans can also refine an extra 1000 dil every 2 days.

Dilithium refinement reset is usually around 7 PM my time (9:05 as of this posting).

But otherwise there's no way to go around it. Otherwise the dilex would be at 500 dil/zen pretty much all the time.

Okay, thanks. I was just hoping there was something to do with all this dilithium ore that keeps piling up. I hate getting it as a reward for things, since there's literally nothing to do with it. I log on once a day to refine, roll over my R&D stuff, duty officer and admiralty stuff, run a few missions and whatnot. And by the end of it I've earned far more dilithium than I can refine in a day.

Make a new character? The dilithium refinement limit isn't account-wide, it's only 8k per character per 24 hours.

Won't solve refinement problems on your first char but a suggestion.

Yeah, but I'm barely interested enough in this game to play one character, let alone two.

I just wish that there were alternatives when it's offered as a reward. Because as things are, it's useless to me.

Ahh so you have ran into the core of the matter, the entirety of the endgame goes around Dilithium. Want to upgrade equipment, buy from fleet stores, reputation items, premium currency. You will see one common thing; they all use Dilithium. It is the tool of the developers to control the game economy and a player development by putting everything in one currency and putting a cap on it. #WelcometotheEndgameGrind

Champions has a higher limit than 8k per day and it can be exchanged for zen too. Their Dilithium is called Questionite but it serves the same function. So it hard to swallow that 8k limit is because it can be exchanged for zen when another Cryptic game has a higher daily limit.

screw it then, I'll just farm lobi crystals.

No, it's not. It's a scale thing. STO has way more players, including way more F2P grinders. With the same limits, STO's dilithium would devalue on the exchange much faster than questionite. That's not a desirable outcome for the publisher, as a too-poor exchange rate would make Zen feel too "unattainable" for new F2P grinders, hindering new player retention.

If you look closely, you'll see how hard they push you to spend real money. At the current rate of refinement, it could potentially take up to a month to level up ONE ITEM. And that's one example for the currency of everything.

...Then why are you kvetching about refining dilithium?
