The Gambling Scam
Please beware do not gamble in this game! There are hundreds of different ways to gamble in here and most of them cost money. It is a scam!!! The only way to get a ship gambling is to have infinte money. Your chances to get a ship out of a box are less than .002%. you litteraly have better odds at the casino.

Fear not however, there is still a way to get 99% of everything in the game for free. It's called grinding. You are MUCH! better off griding EC instead of paying money to gamble boxes. In fact, you are even better off spending money on keys selling the keys on the exchance for EC and then buying the item you want instead of gambling.

EXAMPLE: Lets assume that 300 keys will get you a ship. that will cost you ~30,000 zen...
The chance of you getting a ship is still only about 10% for all those keys but lets say you get a ship.

Now lets look at the Exchange. A key will fetch about 4m on the ex, the ship you want is around 300m. You could have bought said keys and sold them on the ex for 4m each that would be 75 keys to get the item you wanted, but instead you gambled and lost 225 keys to maybe enough lobi to get another ship.

This example flows across ALL gambling mechinisms in the game from Pheonix boxes to RND packs to crafting procs on weapons.

THE ONLY REASON TO OPEN A BOX IS TO GET LOBI FOR THE LOBI STORE!!!!

The gambling has gone beyond crazy, i love the game but i can admit that the gambling has to stop, players hated on EA for there SW Boxes but in this game its way more profound, i am surprised you dont have to be over 18 to play this.

Saying that the laws seems to be changing and STO could be screwed eventually, you can spend thousands and get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

don't gamble, grind ec and buy it on the exchange if you absolutely have to have a lockbox ship.....or just use the normal ones or the occasional tier 6 ships you get for free....yes that's right, there are top tier ships that are absolutely free.

the gambling part is a choice, theres nothing that requires you to do it to be competitive or fun

If I was a parent I would not let my kids play this game. Just like I wouldn't let them shoot heroin or play buffalo bill. I can't believe this game isn't being sued by the US gov for failing to adhere or be penalized for running an online casino based in california.

It's based around the loophole that you are guaranteed something of value - Lobi. That, and lawmakers really haven't taken issue to things like boxes until now.

not complaining just warning, you should take your own advice.

For god sake, stop complaining about the gambling already. Dont gamble and you are good to go. Whats the problem?

Also, theorically, its not gambling, cuz as pavel said, you are buying something. The big prize is just something option you could win. Thats all. The problem is the guy who dont understand this and keeps opening lockboxes waiting for the ship.

Now, the thing is, if you are smart, you will never gamble more than one or two boxes. If you are smart, you will understand that cryptic performs these tactics all the time to make not smart people and newbies to spend money when they dont need to. And that you should not open more than one or two boxes, a day at most (i only open one box a week, more or less so).

But if you are not smart, or you have a gambling or addiction problem, then you are going to keep opening lockboxes. That is up to you. It has nothing to do with the game.

Not complaining, just warning...You should take your own advice...

Be aware that some ships costs 1billion ec and more, thats 250keys@4mill you have to sell to afford that. And a pack of 10keys in zen store is 1125 Zen. No matter how you do this, your being scammed.

I got my Raver outfit and the Melbourne Shuffle emote... It's not a Shuffle like the Shuffle master Francis ..

Ended up also having to buy a outfit slots item from the Zen store due to that Outfit "added unforeseen feature" they still haven't fixed in.. ... ... well since dawn of time... 500k latinum for both...

But it was better spent then say a pile of latinum for a ship's bridge, of which most of my ships lack the interior to even display such a "trophy".. And other then RP Clan's who even visits other player's bridges anyhow...

The post above yours, n3mes1s, was the player talking about having to buy an outfit slot (with Zen) in order to use the terrible Club Wear outfits.

The pile of latinum for bridges is referring to the latinum bridge trophies you can get for a few hundred thousand latinum.

The trophies are literally piles of latinum though. Was just offering my input - far as I know you can't buy a ship bridge with latinum.

True. Just sounded like there was some confusion - GPL is still useless though.

This.... Clubwear is limited in the locations where you can wear it.. But it's in more places than an item on display on a bridge (readyroom) that no one would really see...

Im just saying that it comes a time where someone always popups and complains about gambling in this game. Its a real old topic. Its has been that way since 2010 lol. Usually people who complain about it are newbies or just not smart persons. Also most people who complain dont even know how the game works. This is just a warning...

2012, you mean? Prior to that there were no lockboxes, no keys, and the only gambling was Dabo. The Cardassian lockbox was the first one, released February 9th, 2012.

For such low odds I feel like there are more lockbox ships than anyone knows what to do with.
ImperatorPavel Mar 20, 2018 @ 5:54pm
Lots of people open boxes. Some of them don't need the ships.
